So now there is a market to force the data back into the results - an arms race.

However, the WAZE software can easily filter this sort of data-corruption out as different devices will pass the location and register the POLICE being there, while the "not there" notifications will continue to come from one or two devices over and over... you just filter out input from those devices for 'violation of terms of service' - say block them for a week.

Years back I had an early Uniden Bear Tracker installed in my e39 M5. Along with a scanner, they have a programmable proximity warning that sounds a audible and visual alert when you get within three miles of your state highway patrol.
When a patrolman exits his vehicle and uses his portable radio, it lights up the entire cell of patrol car's short-range transmitters. The device looks for this frequency and makes a caculation as to range. Check page four of this pdf

California may have banned these devices, and it looks like the ones they now sell not are for home use. Sure.

BTW, I live just a few blocks from where WAZE had their store-front office in Palo Alto office. As I remember, just nine guys split about $600,000,000 from Google-a nice payday.

Uniden ... I had one of their detectors 30 years ago. I had completely forgotten that name. I had heard Google paid half again that figure for the acquisition. Whatever it was, the split must have been nice!

I hope the purchase proves to be good for the system ...

I could see a merger with Google Maps (satellite view).

Maybe tie in with Escort or Valentine with their on board detectors via Bluetooth to merge the screens.

And more.

Fingers crossed.
