Default Upgrade from 997.1 to 997.2?

Has anyone upgraded from a 997.1 to a 997.2 recently. Struggling to justify the change. Seems for about 25-30k additional I can get a nice one, but really is it worth it? Thinking of just keeping it another year and wait for a 991. Bought 07 base cab with 7k miles - put on another 8k in a year. It is a simple fun car that just works, puts a smile on my face and have other fun cars. Wife loves it but has tiptronic... I know, I know but need auto for wife.

Depends on your budget. 991 can be down in the 80's

For me only if it was a better one overall, I have a 997.1 C4S……I would go to a 997.2 GTS or GT3, but not a 997.2 C4S. I don't like the 991, its just too big.

18 months ago I traded in my '07 C4s X51 cab manual for a '10 C2s PDK cab. The '07 had 12k miles on it. The '10 had 33k. Was nearly a strait trade. After a few mods (see sig below) this car is so much more enjoyable to drive. The update PCM/electronics is so much nicer, the LED lights and PDLS up front are awesome, then there is the 9A1 engine and PDk. In fact if you think about it, what does the 991 have that the 997.2 doesn't have? Different overall car but the specs are very similar. I agree the 991 is more GT, the 997.2 is more raw sports car. I will own a 991 someday but I'm in no big hurry to "upgrade"! My $.02

If you mean 25-30k plus your 07, that means your 07 is valued around 30k. Are you willing to take that depreciation hit for more hp and better PCM? Assuming you've gotten past the IMS issue, that's a difficult one to justify. As to PCM, for less than 1k you can swap the head unit for Pioneer, Kenwood etc.
Now if you were going from a 996, it would, in my opinion, make good sense as the change is rather dramatic to a 997.2.

At the time the 997.2 was being released, Porsche put together press kit materials describing the changes.
This one is probably the most pertinent: http://press.porsche.com/vehicles/09...Long_FINAL.pdf, but there are others here as well: http://press.porsche.com/vehicles/09_press_kits/

The PDK one is very informative too: http://press.porsche.com/vehicles/09..._Lake_City.pdf. I'd recommend this one for everyone interested in the PDK who hasn't seen it.

I think the PDK is a HUGE Upgrade, if you were talking Manual to Manual maybe not, but the fact you need an Automatic to me makes it worth it. Get an "S" model while you are at it.

As far as the $30K, that is up to you, test drive a few and decide, I did this recently with the 991-S and stuck with my 997.2.

If its manual to manual - NO, its not worth upgrading to a 997.2.

If you want a PDK, then yes.

I'm in the same boat as another poster here, I would only upgrade if I was getting a 997.2 GTS or GT3. Personally I don't think the 20k-30k bump is worth it to upgrade from a 997.1 to 997.2.

Unfortunately I seen my next target - the just released 991 GTS. Yummy.

Test drove a 13 991S cab with PDK today after the snow. Great creature comforts but felt more GT than sports car. More sophisticated but less fun. Maybe great for daily driver. Will drive a GTS and a 10 or 11 S when snow clears. Thanks for great input

I hate that huge center stack and console in the 991.

991 gt3 is a quantum leap forward but you look at $150k+ here. As of 997.x or 991 street cars, not sure what you gonna gain. It is overall very similar platform, very similar torque ( in reality, in usable rpm range). 997.2 gts car has better tuned motor than 991 's' car. They all drive quite similar to each other. There are no miracles there.

Seems the big choice is 997 platform vs 991 and you mention only 12 months to wait. I think that's the decision point. If 991 is your aim, I'd wait and get that.

However if you prefer 997, a 997.2 would be great and I'm partial to my C4S though get whatever variant suits your parameters.

Just my observations on the excerpts I quoted above. I've had both so I directly experienced the differences.

It is certainly more than the PDK, the most important being greatly improved torque across the whole RPM range... the power gain seems to be more than just the peak horsepower numbers reveal and it comes in a more robust engine. Then you get relatively modern electronics including bluetooth and iPod/iPhone hookup (albeit wired) built in and a PCM surface finish and buttons that don't have significant wear problems. The suspension was reworked for the better and you can certainly feel it.

Also don't forget, while you pay more up front it isn't money totally lost, you'll get some of the back when you sell (although the range will diminish over time). And as you see in the discussions over the past few months, I think .2s will hold their value better and be easier to sell in the long run.

Tough choice-

Personally I'm a manual guy- and won't go for an auto.

That said Ive driven PDK 997.2 and 991 c2 S cars- my impression is that the PDK on the 991 is way more developed than what I found on the 997.2. Specifically, the fluidity of the the shifting, the response of the drivetrain to the electronics seemed seamless in the 991.

In the end, personally I like my 997.1 C2 non S manual better than either but it's all preference
