Question an Alternative to Optimol TA paste

I have been looking for an alternative to Optimol Ta, or aluminum paste. It is hard to find, I could not find it at castrol page, some shops sell it at 35$ for 100 grams and takes 2 weeks to deliver.

I am sure that are other alternative more ready avaible.

Could loctite silver grade an alternative?

We use the Loctite silver all the time. Permatex also makes OK stuff. They have a copper base anti-seize for higher temperature use,

As an FYI - according to Castrol, Optimol or latterly Molub-Alloy TA has been discontinued. I've tried to source it in Europe and the USA without success. Castrol confirmed that it is no longer part of their product range.

I contacted Henkel to ask about the Loctite Silver grade as an alternative to TA paste. The rep told me that there is not a direct equivalent for TA paste in the Loctite range. He offered the comment that some anti-seize compounds have abrasive elements in them so are not a good choice for moving parts.

Castrol UK have now commented that only the 100g tubes have been discontinued. TA paste is still currently available in 1kg tubs.

If one is considering the use of copper pastes / grease, this appears to be a well written and data driven article on the subject:

...and they are certainly selling their brand's alternative.

Help me understand the error of my ways.

I have been using the Permatex little tube for 18 years now (same tube!!!). So while I am sure there is "better" stuff out there, how would I recognize the faults in the Permatex stuff?

Peace

Per my post from 2016, be careful when substituting another silver paste for Optimol. Even if they look the same, they could f up your center locks due to the abrasive particles in anti seize. If in doubt, call the manufacturers.
