I am the second owner of a 997.2 Carrera S Cab. I was looking at the build sheet and never saw limited slip listed as an option or standard feature.
My car has PSM, does it therefore have limited slip standard as part of the feature ?

It's an option so if it's not listed in your build sheet I doubt you have it. just get a guards unit.

So i want to make sure that I understand this clearly then. If I have the button near the gear shift that says shows an image of a shock absorber then does my car therefore have sport option- then I also therefore have limited slip ?

Nope. There is no button for the Sport Suspension. It is an option that is "just" a more aggressive suspension.
I assume you have PASM. On my PDK-equipped GTS, I have three buttons, Sport, Sport+, and PASM (the shock absorber one), in that order. When all are off (no lights), throttle map and suspension are "Normal." Press Sport, throttle map is more aggressive, shock absorber button lights up indicating PASM is active. Hit Sport+, and an even more agressive throttle map is invoked. I know in Sport I can turn PASM off to have a more aggressive throttle map, but a normal suspension.
Check your Owner's Manual. In mine, it's pg 57.

That's the PASM button. The Sport Chrono buttons will say "SPORT" and SPORT+". The button with a pair of exhaust tips is PSE. Sport suspension has no button, it's just there if you have that option (ie, you would not have a PASM button). Same with LSD- there's no button; if you have it, it's just there.

I have always thought that all 997.2 911's have a limited slip rear differential as standard equipment... so if I have this right, now reading this thread, that actually VERY FEW 997.2's do... is that correct???

No worries though, if you wanted a functioning LSD for tracking (not much other application for it given the rear-engine weight bias unless your breaking many laws hahaha) you'd buy a guard. Even the guys with GT3s apparently get good use out of their stock LSD for maybe 2 track sessions before needing to replace the internals etc.
At least that is what everyone has said.

Yes, Sport Suspension includes the LSD, option P17 on my build sheet. PASM is a completely separate option. My PASM came as part of Sport Chrono Plus, option 640.
I ran about 10 track days before needing to replace the LSD on my ex-6GT3. I did replace it with a Guards unit.
