Radar Detector Advice
I'm still slumming with a Passport Redline. Picked up FHP… wait for it… 12 miles out.
FL is flat, road was straight, measured it on Google maps. A K-9 unit had a rental on the side of the road, passengers/contents in 2 separate piles. He left his Ka on, I thought it had to be from behind out of sight, the alert was so long.
9 minutes later, there he was. I usually don't speed in town, the Redline is great for what I need.
Escort is very hard to beat. To me, detecting the threat as soon as possible is paramount. And, always have a rabbit...

For instance, I was traveling late this afternoon southwest to northeast on a ridge on the coast range and the rear laser warning was activated but there was no one within many of my location and the sun was directly behind the vehicle at ~20 degrees.
Perhaps it is time to raise our hands with Escort and wonder if there is a fix?
The one down side of the max vs 9500 is the display light/letters are very faint with the max in daylight. In daytime, you have to go with the sound to identify the type of radar signal. At night time, it's easily readable. I think the max has an edge over the 9500, but not by much, if at all.
Here is a link to my previous post on the way I did the hardwiring: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...etector.html#9. You'll find some other opinions in that and other threads as well.
Fortunately those are probably the only "falses" I get so it's not too bothersome.

I keep mine turned on for my 9500 but i'm not exactly sure why because never once has it gone off accurately... I get maybe one or two a week where it buzzes POP like crazy but there's nothing there.

Hey guys, I'm late to the game, but I have a Passport Max hardwired with a Blendmount in my 993 C4S. Pic below. I've had no issues with it at all, and I think that for city driving, the Max/Max2 is hard to beat.
So do you guys think the max 2 is enough or is it worth it to go 9500ci? I'm really considering the 9500ci but is it really worth it to spend the 2000-2500 once installed price for it? Where the max is 600 and I can move it from car to car fairly easily.
Like you said, you can move it from car to car with ease, and not only is the 9500ci older tech than the Max, but at around $2400 vs. $600 for the Max, that's 4x the price.
Thing is, the 9500ci isn't 4x the better detector, or going to offer 4x the protection from radar.
I got the Max because I live in a congested city, and with it's ability to detect and silence false hits, it's quiet yet effective. It's arguably the best detector for city use on the market
If mobility is the issue, then it's a no brainer for the Passport Max in my view. Also, I mentioned before, but the included suction cup mount is very good. Perhaps you can buy extras for your other vehicles, or a Blendmount for one and use the suction cup mount for another. Very easy to remove, just a simple press and it slides out. Very pleased with this feature, as I will move the detector between cars as well.
Has anyone had their detector stolen? I'm wondering how diligent I should be with removing it if I pop in somewhere.
I haven't had to worry about my car being broken into in about 20 years since aftermarket CD player days.
