Thumbs up BendPak BL-5000 Lift Modified for my 997

I recently purchased BL-5000 and found out that the length of the lift point wont match my cars lift point so I had the lift modified and it worked great. just wanted to share the project see the video below

I wonder if it would be possible to put the lift under the car in the opposite direction. So that the heavy end of the car...the engine (and overhang) would be better supported?
You mods to the lift look great!

nice. I was really interested in that lift, then read that it wouldn't fit the 997.

So all you did is weld a 1/2" steel plate to extend the one side?

Very creative solution to your lift but I would not get underneath a car with a field modified left. I'm sure it will work fine you you.

Toptier, yes the plate is 1/2 inch think and 18 inches long from the front edge of the lift plate.

JKW I will be rotating the lift 180 degrees meaning the original lift point on the BL-5000 will be used for the back support and the weld plate in the front lift, so this way the heaviest part of the vehicle will be on the back which should be fine for going under, I think this way it be more safer.

Personally I would be hesitant to get under a car that is being supported by a modified lift. I say sell the lift to get back some of the money you put out for it and cut your losses. Your life is worth more than $1300, and if those welded sections give while your car is up in the air you can easily do more than $1300 in damages.

Just my 2 cents.

the good thing about BL-5000 is that it is reversible so the modified section can be put in the front and non modified section in the back area that has most of the weight, then the question of CG come into play, which with all the trial runs its been very stable even in high lift point when I shake the car for stability it does not budge.

if I do go under the vehicle I will be placing sands in the front area under the axles just in case in an unlikely event the plate gives out (very strong plate and welded underneath and all 3 corners)

I do agree that safety is the outmost and for $1300 you are correct but what I have modified is definitely a keeper and to sell it locally has not happened since I did list it before modification on Craig's list (shipping will be very expensive)

so it will do for now. thanks for your input

I had my Maxjax delivered to where I work. We have a loading dock. I had it loaded onto my pick up and off I went. I unpacked it from the bed of my truck. Some of the carriers have lift truck service but that is far and in between.

I have the BendPak mid rise scissor lift (http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/spe...ts/md-6xp.aspx). It was delivered to my home with a truck that had a lift gate. Ordered it from Amazon and it actually came from Northern Tool. Free shipping.

The rear part of the lift has wheels that made it easier to move into the garage. It is 800 lbs, so still a little difficult, but I did it on my own.
