Default HELP! Oil Temp. Gauge Faulty

Ok. I did my required search before posting. Others had the problem but I found no real solution.

Coming into work today I get the "oil temp. gauge faulty" warning and the needle of the gauge is lying at 150. anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Is the car a daily driver?

My car is a garage queen and I got this same warning. After driving it for a couple day, voila, it started to work again.

I guess the oil needed to flow a bit

Is it truly the gauge that's faulty, or the sensor? I had a bad oil pressure sensor on my 996, which was a relatively simple fix (new sensor). I only knew it was faulty because the pressure would drop to zero and then back up to normal for no particular reason. I'm surprised that the car is able to recognize a faulty gauge.

It's most likely the sensor, cost about $50 if I remember correctly. Easy job, but a little tight to get to, may need a 19mm Crowfoot wrench to remove.

I'm not sure exactly what OP's fault is pointing to but arent the temp/pressure sensors separate? i replaced my pressure sensor (which is on top of the right cyl bank, with crows foot, etc) last season but i think the temp sensor is separate and is attached to the oil pump on the underside of the engine somewhere...no?

its the temp gauge that went out. not pressure. however, it was working again this morning. maybe a loose connection? not sure what the heck is going on.

In the words of a wise man, there is no such thing as a good connection.

You now have an intermittent problem. Intermittent problems suck.

I suspect you are on the right track suspecting a bad connection since generally when components fail they do not auto - resurrect!

Good luck.
