Yep - OBC is On Board Computer - big name for that area under the tach that shows the results of a user's selections - lots of info - tire pressure, etc.

For reference on short times, take a mechanical stop watch. Click it on and off as fast as you can. That's a tenth of a second. A stalk is a lot longer. No tricks, the Chrono can be programmed as lighted or not because it is and should be a personal preference.
I'm a newbie here learning as fast as I can. I have looked for lists of acronyms and only found partials that I have stitched together. It can be a bear trying to follow some of this stuff!
In the meantime, I think you can be certain that OBC is, in fact, On Board Computer. This is what reads the environment and sends information to not only the tach display, but also the PCM and, from what I can see looking at my water temperature gauge, controls (and lies to) the instrument cluster in general.

So this PIWIS "reprogramming" (to light up the chrono for example) can only be done through the dealership with use of their software and equipment??
I know this is the case on MANY options on the BMW, things must be done at the dealership $$$$.. Wondering if the same is true of Porsche??

The sports chrono was set that way (on) by the previous owner. As I understand it, the setting is something the dealer can change.
Perhaps the Durametric can turn it on or off as well?

OK, what is the "durametric"??? My chrono is actually OFF, and I'd kinda like to have it lit at night. Yea I may grow tired of it, but why not give it a try.. I'm a new guy!!!
