Default 1/2 Mile Speed

Hey guys I am thinking about entering one of these 1/2 mile events where they measure your top speed. I have searched around and cannot seem to find any data for a 997.2 C4S top speed for 1/2 mile.

I am just trying to set expectations for myself...does anyone know what I should expect? Or has anyone done this with results? Thanks.

The event I am looking at is in Ocala in January...more to come!

But I am still wondering what to expect from my C4S? I did research results from one of their events last year and found this...131 mph average??? I was thinking I should be able to get closer to 140...No?

Are there different groups for LCS versus non-LCS? Otherwise it doesn't seem fair.

I think they break up prizes into various groups...i.e. Forced induction, N/A, four doors, etc...not totally sure? Does that answer your question?

sort of... I was referring to Launch Control usage for the 1/2 mile times. Your 997.2 C4S if equipped with PDK and launch control is going to wipe my poor 997.1 manual off the map.

Oh...sorry! No I doubt they have different classes for that...it looked like bacially N/A and forced induction but I think they may break it down more that that...that is all I was trying to say???

Yes as follows but I have been waiting for them to give me a more formal release so I could post here...it is called wannaGOFAST and the link to the Ocala event is here at http://www.wannagofast.com/ocala.php

Also if you have never seen or done an event like this check out the video at the bottom of the link page. Close you office door and turn up the volume...hope to see some of you there!

130-140 seems the most plausible range based on A) quarter mile trap speed of ~110mph for the car and B) the increasing, non-linear impact of drag. For our cars I suspect the advantage vs. similarly powered cars is mostly in traction. Once you get past a certain speed, however, traction no longer plays much role and it becomes purely horsepower to overcome increasing drag resistance. 911s are under-powered for their given quarter mile times because of good aero and traction (and perhaps conservative HP figures?) so I can imagine the pull from 110 to 135mph taking some time...

I also looked at the past results for guidance but it was tricky and I'm not sure if they just estimated the WHP for lots of cars or they were dyno'd? I didn't read the site closely enough to see if they talk about that... But vast majority of cars are heavily modded. Given the nearest to stock (or actual stock) GTR on there posted a 147mph best speed, I would think around 130-135mph is reasonable for a C4S.

You have the advantage of LC. Can't tell if the other C4S had LC, but if so, I think the 130mph target is your answer.

Thanks for the comments...I was thinking more than 135mph based on a guy who ran this with an ISF and did 135-138 and I would think our cars are quicker and faster??? I guess I will just have to go do this!!!

I've pulled against an ISF and we are faster (and mine is manual) around 50 - ... well.. let's say "65"... and I'm sure we're faster still from a standing start and to the quarter mile...

Was the ISF stock? I would be surprised if someone with a bone stock ISF was running that kind of event... I'd also frankly be surprised that they are only 10mph shy of a late generation stock GTR at the half mile point, as the GTR should be clocking similar times and speeds to a 911 Turbo...

I do think 130-140 is the right range. Given my manual (with a gear change) was able to pull against an ISF and come out ahead, I'd be surprised if it would run a better trap speed...

Could be up to 140 I suppose. We used to do these for charity back home over a weekend and I've run anywhere from 191-216 in one car and 166-187 in my other car. However, both of those are forced induction so heat and altitude play a much larger role. Wouldn't have a clue with the Porsche but 130-140 seems to be in the ballpark.

You run what you run. I used to go more to catch up with friends and socialize. The events are fun and a good chance to see some nice cars and marvel at the extreme modifications that some people have done.
