I used to be in the pay out the *** crowd based on fear of a warranty issue if I had completed my on oil changes. Having had a few highend cars through the warranty period and continued ownership afterwards I left that group.

I do all my own oil changes. Have on my 997.2 since day one. Keep all the receipts and a log. Did it again yesterday for $46 in Mobil 1 from Walmart and a $15 filter from my Indy. Takes 20 minutes and a trunk monkey could do it.

$61 and I know it is done correctly.

I wouldn't even think of dumping the oil when my local parts stores (O'Reilly, Autozone, etc) take it in for free.

I was lucky enough to find the 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 0W-40 at O'Reilly. They are significantly cheaper per quart than the one quart bottles. Picked up a Wix filter while I was there. First time I've spent less than $100 for a DIY oil change on my car.

That's a strange definition of "lucky".

Typically they only ever have the one quart bottles. With over $20 in savings I do consider myself lucky to have found the 5 qt jugs.

Possibly means being lucky (or unlucky?) to have purchased 0W-40 versus something else...?
