Default New car intro rate vs 964 board

Wow, I have to say the pace of new 997 owners is impressive. I've seen more in a week than I saw in 6 months on the 964 board. The reasons are obvious but it is still a bit surprising.

A used 997.x is a great value in the world of sports cars/GT cars. I drove several 981's and an F80 M3 but couldn't justify the extra 30-40K against the price of a good used 997. Besides its a 911 and those other cars aren't.

There has been a noticeable uptick in new purchases reported to this forum in recent weeks. I assume it will stagnate a bit in the coming cooler months.

The cars represent good value, in my view, at the moment, especially a well cared for 997.1. That said, I feel that they still require a decent investment and not everyone can afford one, it's not a Civic or Mustang. Just a couple weeks into my ownership, I have been reflecting on how fortunate I am to have been able to buy one. It is a luxury which I have been able to afford after much hard work, but it certainly wasn't a necessary purchase (unlike, say, my buddy who had twins for his his second and third and had to buy a minivan ASAP). So for that, I'm quite thankful!

I entered 997 ownership this year, and I'm still pinching myself. I love seeing others in the same situation as myself. I'm not in a position to buy a new one (and I probably wouldn't have wanted to stomach that depreciation either even if I could have!) and lots of these second owners are true car enthusiasts .

When I see any generation 911 I always wave or acknowledge the other driver. 9 times out of 10 I get a wave back, or someone has already waved at me. The ones who don't wave are the 991 owners....

This has also been my experience for the last couple weeks. Maybe the 991 owners only wave to each other?

I'm going to attribute it to that they are not as passionate as the 997 crowd!

Love my 997. Just put on the DRL and back dectanes. Thinking if I should get winter set or store for winter. Unfortunately I live in the northeast.

I don't necessarily see it that way as I recently pulled up to a new 991 C4S and we had a very nice exchange...I think it is a matter of enthusiast or not regardless of the model???

I have a great fondness for the air-cooleds but as a daily driver, which mine has to be, the 997 offers me more of what I want in terms of comfort and convenience. The air-cooleds are going up in price, true, but my '05 has depreciated an average of less than $200/mo during the 5 1/2 yrs I've owned it, which I can't complain about. It's about what I could've leased a new Nissan Altima or comparable car for.
