Default Would you repair this tire?

Folks,

Sad day......weather was amazing today in a summer that has been generally cooler than typical. Pulled my car out of the garage, TPMS buzzer and indicator started flashing....sh*t. Rear passenger side flat. I just got a new set of MPSS not three months ago. Pumped it back up and put her back in the garage. I took it out for a drive Saturday morning and returned around 10:30am, so between that and mid day today went flat.

Few questions.....

Would you guys get this tire repaired? (not even sure its possible yet) or would you replace? Would you also take drive on it for ~50km to the tire shop of choice? ( dealer 10 min from me wouldn't sell me MPSS, not sure if I bring em one that they'd do the work, will find out)

Looks like the puncture is not near the side wall. I would just repair it. Done this many time for my tires and never had any issues with them.

Agree with DMZ that a proper repair with an inside patch should work fine. That screw isn't crazy big and the location is in a good spot so the structure of the tire should be fine.

Yes. Have tire removed patch inside and plug. I had a screw exactly like this on mpss about 1/3 away from sidewall on my street tires. It repaired fine.

Repair it. Inside patch is best I've been told. Had many a holed tire, Porsche tire, too, repaired this way and nary a problem.

Hope in driving the car you didn't drive on the tire with it under inflated. This can ruin a tire in no time . If the tire is dismounted and the tire shop tech finds some rubber dust, more than a trace, the tire is not gong to be fixed.

It is perfectly safe to drive on tires that have been properly patched. Just make sure you take it to a shop that is familiar with mounting and balancing these wide tires. It's just as much art as it is having the proper equipment. It's easy to chew up the lip of a rim if they don't know what they are doing (ask me how I know).

I drove about 10-12' feet from garage to driveway. I didn't pick up on the TPMS indicators.

Remove the tire. Take it to a decent tire shop. Have them patch and plug as described above. No worries

If your in Toronto, 1/2 the roads are missing, the other half are under construction.
Looks reparable to me. Get it fixed at your favorite wide tire repair shop. I keep a plugging kit in all my cars for just such an occasion. Air pump, jack, tire wrench, 2x4 to drive the car up onto so the jack will fit. Sure I have CAA, but sometimes I can't wait 2-3 hours for them to come save me. Usually a 20 min job. Be prepared.

Agreed, make sure they patch the INSIDE, if they do it from the outside when your tires start to wear it could cause a blow out, a blow out at speed can be dangerous.

Ask for a patch plug. It's a single unit.

I had a nail on tire and the dealer wanted me to replace it (this was during the car was being serviced at stealership).

I took it to a reputable tire shop and the did plug and patch (one piece) and it was all good...costly but cheaper than a new tire.
