Hi all,
I'm considering on part exchanging my 997.2 4GTS for 997.1 GT3. Just wanted to know your thoughts on whether I should go for it.
My main concerns are:
1. Worried about the depreciation of my 4GTS, where i'm expecting the GT3 to hold its value more.
2. Going from a the Gen1 to Gen 2
3. My 4GTS is curently 5,000 miles where the GT3 im looking at is around 24,000 miles
I would appreciate any advice as Im thinking about putting down the deposit tomorrow.
Thanks all

There is no way I could justify that move if it were me. As far as depreciation...that is car ownership.
Not sure there is enough of a diff. in any spec. to do it UNLESS you are wanting a more track biased car, otherwise IMHO you will be going backwards. In addition there is no way I would trade for this as you will really be taking a hit (if this is a dealership deal) on both cars.

Get both... the 4GTS would be ideal especially if you DD in colder climates. The GT3 has an 8,400 RPM redline(what a hoot) and will likely appreciate from now on as it has the Metzger engine which is no longer available/produced. I'm still kicking myself for not stretching the finances to get a 997.1 GT3 three years back when I picked up my '08 C2S.

Didn't know if I'd appreciate it (initially) - my commute is only 10 miles each way. WAY wrong on this one - totally different, in a good way
Don't think I'd ever be back in a Carrera other than a GT3 of some variant.
Mezger engine, lighter, lower, more HP, better breaks, outrageous exhaust note....just ballsy as hell
edit for additional thoughts - it does not ride much different than the C2S, it is noisier because there is less sound deadening material. I also get better gas mileage in the GT3 - it's slight but is better

I would keep the newer GTS. My $0.02.

Well, either way you are going to love the end result. I've been contemplating a .1 GT3 for some time now but ended up deciding to either go with a .2 GT3 or just order a new one.
That said, the .2 4GTS is the one car I regret not buying when I had the chance. Just a great package of everything Porsche has to offer in a great daily driver. I honestly, would probably keep the GTS. Otherwise, I would look for a .2 GT3 and swap from that. I worry that when it's all said and done, you may miss the comforts of the GTS and not appreciate the performance difference of a .1 GT3 when compared to the hit you are going to take on the GTS.
Best of luck!

It sounds like that is subjective though. There's a few guys here who daily drive them and love it....
If it were me looking for my next 911, although the GTS is beautiful I would not choose it over a GT3. As for value the GT3 will definitely hold strong if not appreciate. I think the GTS will drop like a rock in the coming years, and be a bargain 911 down the road (under-rated).

I made the same mistake with a 993 in late 2012. While getting the 997 serviced walked over to the showroom and they had a beautiful Iris Blue 993 Carrera, 64,000 miles and mint. Asking 32k. I sat in it, closed the door, heard that "thunk", loved it but walked away telling myself 2 cars was enough. Doh!

The GT3 and the GTS are two entirely different vehicles, which happen to carry the Porsche badge. The GT3 is equipped with a very special engine and transmission while the GTS is just another variant of the 997 series.
However, the GT3 will definitely loosen up your amalgams (if you still do that sort of thing), because the suspension is tuned for the severity of a road course. There is no debating the incredible sound of a flat-six Porsche engine at 8400 RPMs (and few do that, BTW). However, if you are looking at a daily driver, then be prepared for severe rides.
The GTS is all dialed in for the masses. It's a consumer grade 911 for the masses, just like the majority of 996s and 997s, and now 991s. Porsche dropped the objective of every 911 being a boy racer for a consumer model, and they merely put the "Carrera" nameplate on it to make you think it's a race car. I happen to like my softened Carrera S Cabriolet, but I'm not the 22 year old kid who bought his first new 911S many years ago, when a 911 could be tracked without any real effort at upgrades.
Only you can determine which is more right for you. If you like the comfortable ride of a GTS, then stick to that. If you want the *****-to-the-walls (can I say that in a public forum?) all-out severity of a GT3, then by all means head right down and grab that thing.

GTS has more torque in the 'street' rpm range, so gt3 car will appear like it is less powerful on the street. it shines on the track.
if you have 0 intent to track your GT3 - I see little reason to do this, but, GT3 is GT3, if you want one, why not. it is a great car.
