Default Speed Control doesn't initiate

Hi,

My speed control won't turn on. I press the button on the end of the control, but the light on the speedometer does not light, nor can I set a speed. Has anyone else come across this issue and found a simple fix?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Start with the simple things - check your fuses

I had my cruise added and I have to press the end button twice for it to turn on. After that all is fine but my light doesn't light up. Not sure why.

Thanks all. I've checked the fuse book, and don't see one associated with the speed control. Is there a way to find that without pulling and checking every fuse?

Might be paired with some other circuit. My 996 Turbo's cruise control is paired with the brake lights.

If the fuse book doesn't show a cruise control fuse check the owners manual or swing by the dealer and have the parts department clerk look it up on his computer.

Interesting result: I took a guess as to which fuse was most likely, and pulled b3. I checked it and it looked fine, so I re-inserted the fuse. Next time I started the car, I got a PSM failure message on the dash warning system. I cleared it, and I have not seen that message again. Since the fuse was OK, I didn't think to check the cruise control immediately, but this morning (about 4 starts after the fuse remove/reinstall), I did click the speed control button and it lit and the cruise control is fully functional. So, keeping my fingers crossed...

Ok, so if that is related, fuse b3 may power the cruise control system and pulling it briefly will give a power up reset to the cruise control controller.
