Default headlight auto off??

is it possibile to connect the headlights so that they turn off when the ignition is turned off?
this electric trunk release from an overnight "forgot to turn off the lights" is a pia.

I haven't tried this, but I would think a relay spliced in to the headlight wire at the switch and then triggered by an ignition-on source would do the trick. Turn ignition off and headlight wire becomes disconnected.

It may throw a code in the ECU, but I doubt a CEL. People with the diode DRL mod don't get any codes. It's just cutting power to the headlight circuit when you turn off the ignition.

Would also love to know if this is possible. Previous search turned up a Cayennne thread where they were retrofitting. The switch module looks the same as the 997.

Have not read the entire thread, but wondering if this would work if installed on the 997.

Bob,

Nearly every Porsche going back DECADES is configured in such a way that the headlights go out when the ignition is turned off. You don't have to do anything special.

If you happen to leave your KEY in the ignition you will continue to burn energy in the battery.

If you leave your parking lights (either singularly, or both) you should know that they will ultimately exhaust your battery over night. (For a dinner out, it is very common in Germany to leave your street side parking lights on during the period of your meal and not risk a dead battery).

And with the parking lights, or if the headlight switch is in the on position (such that it shuts down to running lights when engine off), the car buzzes when I open the door to remind me of the light state (on a 997.2 at least). Did your car not give an audio warning that some illumination was still on?

Of course, all bets are off if you bought the car used and the PO did some unique wiring...
