Question New to me 2012 911 Cabrio, Black Edition

For my first fore' into the Porsche world, my darling wife bought me a 2012 911 Black Edition Cabrio… 5000 miles, seems like a great car. I have been craving a move to Porsche for the last few years and have owned a boatload of german imports from Audi, MB and mostly BMW… The 911 is replacing my 2013 M3 convertible... The plan is to hang onto this of a couple of year to see if I enjoy the Porsche experience as much as I expect to and trade up… Admittedly, I don't know a great deal about the car and was curious if anyone could shed any light on whether this car is anything special other than they only made 1,911 of them. I can't find any figures online that tells me how many 911 Black Edition Cabrio's with manual were imported to the US… Any help out there?

Twinllamas: Surprised that a search of the 997 Forum by you did not turn up a prior thread, New to the 997 Forum, as to the Black Edition from June 2014. That being said here is my original post from that thread.

I have done considerable research as to the Black Editiion's circumstances and equipment. Our coupe is Number 1645 of the 1911 Black Editions produced for the world-wide market. Reportedly less that 500 were imported to the North American market (Canada and the US).

The Black Edition 911 is a very unusual model for Porsche Germany, as it took the base 911 Carrera and gave it extra content that normally is either at optional prices, or reserved for model content in a higher price category of Porsches. The 2012 base 911 Carrera suggested retail price was increased by $3,500 for the 911 Black Edition, and six extra cost options were included as standard equipment. The regular option pricing for this added content is $11,500.00, which along with its limited production numbers, makes the 2012 Black Edition a very desireable model IMO.

The list of this extra equipment included as standard in the 2012 Black Edition, with the respective order numbers and the factory extra cost for each particular option is given below:

19-inch Turbo II alloy wheels (9-inch front; 11-inch rears)[Option # 421] @ $2,440;

SportDesign steering wheel with paddle shifters with PDK transmission [840] @ $430:

BOSE Surround Sound System Plus – 385 watts, 13 speakers [650] @ $1,440;

XM Radio Module (satellite radio) [686] @ $750;

Extended GPS Navigation Module on the PCM 3.0 with Blue Tooth [672] @ $3,110;

Sport Bucket Seats with 14-way power adjustment, and seat memory adjustment for 3 drivers, along with both side mirrors [P06] @ $2320; and,

Center Console painted Black @ $(price not identified).

Porsche AG marketing commissioned a separate book entitled:
911 Black Edition, Power of Attraction, (2010, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG) [“Power of Attraction”].

Other 911 Black Edition details are door entry guards with the model logo, and the limited edition number is displayed on a 911 Black Edition plaque on the glove compartment lid.

The additional options, other than the ones above, installed on our Black Edition coupe are:

Porsche Doppelkupplug (dual clutch 7 speed transmission, aka “PDK”) [Option #250] @ $4080;

Bi Xenon Headlights with Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (headlights electrically move with steering, aka “PDLS”) [Option # 603] @ $690;

Sport Chrono Package Plus (with the PDK 7 speed transmission adds two additional software programs, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”, that improve the throttle response and transmission tuning) [Option # 640] @$1320;

Seat Ventilation and heating (for driver and passenger front bucket seats) [Option # 541] @ $800;

Rear Park Assist (rear radar parking distance sensor) [Option # 635] @ $530;

Storage Lid – leather embossed with Porsche Crest [Option CPT / XUV] @ $330; and,

Wheel Caps with Porsche Crest [Option # 955, Part # 7PP601149A
(SKUCXCCSTH)] @ $185.

Our car also has a full hood and fender clear bra, with clear bra film installed on the lower fender/bumper behind the rear wheels. We also have ZunSport black grills installed in the lower front openings to keep debris out of the radiators.

We have other Porsches, but in our opinion, our 997, Type 2, Black Edition, with its standard equipment and options, is about as good as gets for a serious road going sports car. We also run with a donut spare, jack, and tools in the frunk so that we not stranded in the middle of nowhere with a flat.

Your Black Edition Cab was priced at $10,000 more than the Black Edition Sunroof Coupe, before options. Hope the above information helps as to the standard equiipment found on your Cab. In the Black Editon Cab, the Bose Surround Sound System has 12 speakers, instead of the 13 speakers found in the Coupe. The Bose System is standard in both variants.

The SportDesign steering wheel, before the 2012 Black Edition build and which is standard on both the Cab and the Coupe, was exclusive to the 911 Carrera GTS.

Best Regards,

Type 2

I have a very "old" Black Edition...#297 of 1911. I love the look of these cars especially the Turbo II Wheels, ventilated front seats and the gloss black center console. Great choice in both cars and wife!

All 911s are special regardless of year, model, or equipment, as you'll soon find out. You'll also be forever indebted to your lovely wife for her generosity

Enjoy your new car !
