I am new to Rennlist and this is my first post....and as a chick I must tell you I have been lurking for a while before feeling the courage to put it out there....
I am looking at purchasing my first porsche - a coupe. I want something reliable and fun to drive - to work 45 min open road each way - up and down a mountain. I prefer MT but would consider PDK if everything else is good.
Prefer pre-owned as this will not be my primary car and I prefer not to take the hit on the early depreciation.
I am looking at a car in Bellevue, WA - Park Place LTD. (2009 malachite green carrera S) I am planning on
1) PPI - Chris' German Auto Services?
2) Local Rennlister to possibly test drive and eyeball car??? - anyone?
3) Any other suggestions to get a good feel for this car?
That's a nicely optioned, beautiful car. The color combination (interior and exterior) is rare. I'm a huge fan of the bi-color interiors - mine is sand beige and black, but it think I like the Terracota and black even more.
There are some key options on this car - ceramic brakes, sport exhaust, and sport adaptive seats that are very desirable and boosted the MSRP to about as much as anyone paid for a 2009 C2S coupe, and the previous owners took the depreciation hit. The only downside is that green cars often don't have wide appeal at re-sell, but I don't think this hold for Malachite, which is rarer and better looking than Porsche Racing Green. The price is in the ballpark, so if it checks out, don't screw around, buy it. I'd also recommend flying out and laying eyes upon it, if at all possible. I live in California and just bought a car in your state and seeing the car In person was invaluable. If you could drive it home (I could not), even better.
I'd also recommend holding your cards closer to your vest. Many people reading this are looking for cars and will swoop in on you.
Wow, that's one most loaded Carrera's I've seen. Lot's of nice stuff including the sport exhaust and the two-tone interior. I'm guessing that their photos aren't very good, as the terra cotta interiors I think I've seen are much have more brown and less red in them. The wheels are aftermarket by the way, but appearance-wise I like them a lot. Editing my previous comment: I see they mention the wheels are Champion RS98s. I'm not familiar with them, but they look really nice!
Mileage looks good too. The car is a PDK, so there are no real concerns about over-revs like you would want to check in if it were a manual tranny.
The only two things I see to consider are: It has the carbon ceramic brakes, but it is my understanding that unless you track the car it is unlikely you will have to replace the disks unless you keep the car a very long time. If this is a long term keeper, you want to make sure you understand the cost of those (several thousand for the rotors). Two: The repair and maintenance on these is high and this car does not appear to have a warranty. It depends on how much risk you are willing to take. You may want to consider a warranty, possibly seeing if the dealer will provide one (or help with the cost of one) as part of the deal to reduce out-of-pocket risk. These are very expensive cars to repair.
That car would certainly qualify as fun to drive and is very unique. It appears to be quite a jewel and the price isn't really too far out of line for how well it is optioned (assuming that the PPI doesn't reveal any significant prior damage or other problems).
I just bought my 997 from an out of state dealer and had a decent experience but I did have a local friend check the car out for me... so hopefully a fellow Rennlister chimes in to help.

One last post in a row! Here is a photo that I grabbed off the web that I think is more representative of the terra cotta color as best as I can recall, just FYI. It is certainly not as red as the photos on the dealer's site in my opinion... just in case that matters to you. I think a lot of cameras have trouble with color, as a quick google search of "Porsche terra-cotta" images will reveal.
Edit: Noticed the first image was copyrighted, so found another. The only color difference with the one you are looking at (I think) is the silver console.
When you get the PPI I would ask the shop if they see any signs of it being raced or tracked. I'd imagine it has since it has the PCCB and ultralight non factory wheels but who knows.
Definitely make sure those PCCB's are in good condition before buying and don't need to be replaced anytime soon. Huge expense.
Have used Chris' German service for a MB, and they are good. I would definitely get the PPI. I bought my 07 s at Park Place a little over 2 years ago. One month later, $4K clutch rebuild. Not sure if a PPI would have caught it or not, but you are on your own with them.
