You lose a lot: All of the engine computer's adaptations to your car, the engine has to relearn all of it's settings (spark advance, fuel injection adjustments, etc.). On the directly annoying side, you lose all of your PCM settings, your window indexing settings, seat memory etc.
Just don't do it.
