Sharkwerks Exhaust 997.2 - anyone unhappy with it?
I am considering this mod but I don't like loud or droning pipes. It is just that this stock system on my 997.2 is just so non-sporty.
What do you think? Anyone unhappy with this pipe?

I have had excellent results to date with mine. No drone or issues and it's 10k miles later.
Had the good fortune of getting it installed by the Sharkwerks crew.
Their tech support and customer service is excellent regardless of where you are in the world if that helps with peace of mind since you're not local

If your 997.2 is a PDK, both the Sharkwerks and AWE Tuning crossovers may result in a noticeably rougher idle when sitting at lights in gear (Note: Edited to get rid of wording implying that rough idle always happens). There are several mentions of this in the forums and the manufacturers acknowledge this as well. I noticed it on mine right away even though I wasn't aware of the problem at the time... so I wasn't looking for it... it was obvious right away It doesn't seem to be a problem with the manual tranny.
I've done a few exhaust variations including ones using the AWE Tuning version of this same pipe (it is effectively identical). I tried the AWE crossover with the stock side mufflers. The sound difference was pretty subtle and will likely be less than you are looking for. The crossovers produce more notable results when combined with the PSE or other aftermarket exhaust.
I also tried other combos that included the Fabspeed center x-pipe with both variations of the Fabspeed dual tone side mufflers (it has loud and soft inlets). The soft inlet was too soft in all cases, and loud with the x-pipe had a sound peak in mid-rpm range that I didn't like (too much of a "braaaaat" sound). I found my ideal sound level by going with the Fabspeed dual tone side mufflers on the loud setting and going back to the stock center. I know this is an unusual combo, but it is just right for me, not loud but much more pronounced than stock. No drone, reasonably even volume at all RPMs, and a nice distinct pulsed sound rather than a drone or the "braaat" kind of sound. It also gives a nice but subtle burble on deceleration. IMHO this is very close to the PSE sound, which is reasonably believable since the PSE also uses the same center muffler.

I installed the Sharkwerks bypass on my 2010 997.2 with PDK. Easy install great sound, no drone. I did not experience any rough idle issues for the 10,000 + miles I put on the car before I sold it.

Just to validate the rough idle comment, Sharkwerks themselves commented about it in post 6 on this thread: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...ml#post3836148. There are other threads discussing it as well, easy to find with Google.
It does seem to vary some by car, and for me I even considered just living with it as it wasn't all that bad. Results may vary.

Sharwerks stated that a "small percentage" of owners experienced rough idle. Your original post implied that everyone who buys this product "will" experience this issue. I just wanted the OP to know that the majority of people that buy the Sharkwerks bypass are happy with it and don't have a problem with rough idle.

I had mine installed last Oct and was very pleased with the sound (& weight loss) but my PDK w SC car is/was one with the aforementioned idle vibration while stopped in gear w foot on brake. Sharky told me in advance that the EVOMSit tune would fix it IF I had the issue. In January I had the ecu tune done, and I have no further issues and the drive ability of the PDK in all three modes (normal, sport, and sport plus) is much better. I highly recommend this relatively inexpensive mod. The dyno shows 18-20 HP on 91 octane. Probably closer to 22-24 w 93 which equates to less than $100/hp improvement on the 997.2 cars.

BTW, SharkWerks calls this upgrade a stage1 performance kit & is the first thing they recommend. Listed price on the website is $2095 plus shipping & install. No affiliation.

I just installed the SW bypass and Fister cans on my 997.2 PDK. Huge improvement in sound. It now sounds as it should. Zero droning. No vibration issues at idle, whatsoever. I spent a good amount of time making sure all connections were clean and tight. Perfect fit, all around. It really changes the entire character of the car. I couldn't be any more happy. Btw, I also had my OEM tips ceramic coated by FDM. I love the way they turned out. Good luck, OP.

I installed my SW Bypass 2 months ago. Drove the car for 500 miles and decided to take it a step further. Did the gundo hack and it came alive. No drone at 2000-2900 rpm. Over 3000, it sings. Love the sharkwerks/gundo combo. I have a 2010 C4S with manual tranny.

What diameter piping did you use for your Gundo?
I went with a 2" bypass and it's loud enough for me, but I'd be interested if the tone improves further with the center muffler delete.
Thanks in advance,
Bill
