I think if you're asking the question, the answer is coupe. I always see tons of rag tops driven on gorgeous days with the top up, presumably by people who thought it may be a cool thing to own. The cab is heavier, more expensive, (slightly) noisier, mostly can't be tracked (without roll bar), has an expensive mechanism to break. If you're a cab person, you don't care one bit about any of that.

I am on my 7th new Porsche and this is my first Cab. The car is stored seven months of the year but I must admit, on a warm night driving with the top down, can be quite nice.
That being said, I drive it 90% of the time with the top up. Is that 10% worth the extra 10K? ........Yes, if you hate your money.

I'm buying used and they are around the same price as the coupes right now.

The wind defector dramatically reduces the wind noise and velocity within the cabin. I consider it a must and if you drive with a female companion you will end up closing the roof if you do not have one.

My thinking is the 911 is for the drive. The way it makes you feel, the way everything shakes or does not shake, the rear drive, the chassis solidity. Cabs and coupes feel different. But someone said if you are asking then go with the coupe, i agree. Cab owner know they want a cab.
Have a coupe, also want a cab but i think i will get a bmw merc or a lexus for that...i would like to cruise in my cab if you know what im saying.

As already mentioned. you'll be surprised by the number of times you will put the top down.
Pretty much if it isn't raining the top is down, since it is our "other" car the top is down in the garage all the time, ready to go. The top goes up (and down) very quickly just pressing the button, no handles or anything to release............We like it so much we are planning to move up to an 09 or 10...(06 997S Tip/Cab FOR SALE)

Cab
Think i'm deciding against the cab. Just took her for a test drive and felt great, but the cab fabric top looked worn and had some tears in the top (not all the way through, but looked worn). Also, had two rashed rims and some rock damage on the front.
Anyway, what's the price of a new cab top + installation?

PT, the car in which you describe sounds like it's well-used. If the top is that beat up, along with the wheels, I'd imagine the entire car was not well taken care of. I've seen 996 cabs with the original and perfect tops.
My top had a couple of stains that some TLC cleaned up and then sealed with RAGGTOP protector. Just out of curiosity, what's your budget?
