I run PCA DE's a few times a year and have no intention of going to R rated tires. In this case, the cab is allowable and more than capable (at least for me)

Obviously, if someone is buying a car as mostly for track use then they are not going to buy a cab. But....for occasional track use its great and you can put the top down for the drive home

I don't want to turn this further into a track discussion, but just want to point out that this depends on the club and track policy. My local one (Lime Rock) for example stipulates that cabs with rollover protection must drive with it in the deployed position. On a 997 that's a dealer job.

However, the cabriolets have infinite headroom.

A cabriolet to me, its too hot, too dusty, too windy, too noisy, too cold, too much vitamin D, too many freckles and skin issues. I'm currently watching my 8o year old step father get carved up for skin cancer issues. Too much sun for me. So much so, I just had my car ceramic tinted. I look forward to hiding...
stuffing the kids back there or two sets of clubs. That back coupe shelf often has stuff up there too.

back on top. Here are pictures of the cabrio roof condition. Is this normal wear? for a 2006 Cabrio?

Well, looks like it's stained a bit, which a raggtopp treatment would likely fix. Otherwise I'd say probably yes. I have 52k on mine, but it's 3 years younger. Definitely starting to show some of those signs.

That top looks like it's been opened dirty and wet too many times, and then left with the top down for long periods of time. It definitely needs a good washing and then protection. (also looks like there is winter road salt grime)

I do wash my top using a closed cell yellow sponge (one that won't lint) and car soap, and then let it air dry. My dealer asked me one time what I used on my top to make it look so black and new, so I must be doing something right.

I just got a quote from a local Porsche shop of $1200 (part+labor) if I wanted to replace it. Kinda tempting if detailing can't help

Looks a little rough but it needs a good cleaning and protection application. Raggtop is highly recommended but if it's got wear places I'd pass. There's lot of clean cabs out there but you may need to up your budget a bit or plan on doing some maintenance. A dirty, faded top can be fixed pretty easily.

I would agree that it needs a good cleaning. But the wrinkles are relatively par for the course. You won't ever eliminate them. +1 on the Raggtopp system. Porsche also sells a good cleaning and sealant product.

Has anyone ever replaced their top fabric? Wonder if it looks stock or different?

Cab for sure. I did not replace but saw a 996 turbo I was considering that had it done. Looked perfect

Please do not cab.

Why not just get a boxster?

The side profile of the car is completely ruined with a cab. Top up or down.

The teardrop shape is gone, and so is the appeal.
The carrera is an iconic design.
