Default 997 dead battery / key stuck / power to fuse panel terminal doesn't work

Hi,

I know this is similar to some other threads but the specifics aren't the same so I'm making a new topic.

My 997 C2S battery died. It happened once before and using a small charger on the terminal in the fuse panel worked right away. This time the battery's extra-dead (left the door open - no lights, no 'click click click' when I insert the key in the ignition). I've applied 2A and 15A to the terminal in the fuse panel and ... nothing. Now also the key is stuck in the ignition.

Reading some other threads, I see a few that indicate the key has to be in the door for this to work. I'm certain I didn't have the key in the door the last time I did it (when it worked) and, of more immediate importance, my key is stuck in the ignition and can't be removed to put in the door. My other key isn't with me.

Any advice? Is there a fuse protecting the circuit with the positive terminal in the fuse panel? None of the fuse panel descriptions sound like they match that.

thanks

Kevin

Your charger could be the problem. I have a CTEK and it has smart charging circuits in it. If it does not see a minimum voltage on the battery it will not supply 12V. So if the battery is completely dead and you are using a battery charger to try and open the hood via the fuse panel, you could be out of luck.

Try jumping the fuse panel from another car's battery instead of from a charger.

Or go buy a new battery, bring it home and install it, assuming this isn't an emergency.

Semicycler: When the small (2A) charger didn't work, I tried another one (when you have motorcycles you have lots of them ) and when that didn't work I bought a new 2/15/40/125A charger. That didn't work either.

Chrono: Can't install a battery without opening the hood

by any chance does your charger have a cigarette lighter adapter? If so then charge up the battery overnight and it should be good to go.

It does not. But why would it charge from the cigarette lighter socket and not the + terminal on the fuse panel?

There should be a small metal rod in your fuse box. The process for using it to remove your key from the ignition is detailed in your owners manual.

BB, tried that. The part where it says to insert rod into hole C? I see no hole past C when the key is turned counterclockwise - or in any other position in the range. Should I be inserting the right-angle part of the rod straight into the hole? Or is there something above or below it's supposed to hook into?

My next move will be to get a new battery ... but there's no reason I can think of that 2/15/40A applied to that terminal wouldn't work and a new battery would

Don't know. I've never had to do it. I just recall reading the technique in the manual. I also recall reading about a cable pull frunk release mechanism in the front left wheel well.

There's an emergency frunk release behind the drivers side front fender liner.

I found the emergency release. Seeing if battery will hold a charge; it's only three years old.

looks like i'm coming in after you solved issue-
wife's 07 Boxster S had totally dead battery with key stuck in ign after i left key on all night after topping up the oil-oops haven't done that again-
I have a portable battery jumper/tire inflator from Costco- used that to connect to fuse panel pull out & once i had good ground with negative, frunk opened right up even with totally dead battery-
new H7 interstate battery installed - I use battery tender on my 07TT as it's not used daily. wife's is daily driver no tender
