How do you guys sleep at night reading about all these potential issues?

I dump in pre mixed Prestone and off i go....

Theres enough to worry about with IMS and exploding PDK's but now i need to worry about Locasil or Alusil or pentosin??

Am getting a headache

Hi vern, dont think our brothers really worry, they just share and like discussing these things. Its great conversation.
But prestone might not be a good idea. Well that is if you intend to really keep a car long.

Was just kidding but it does get a little obsessive at times (ok really obsessive at time ie most of the time)

I use Prestone to do a little top up at times and it says its ok for Pcars but havent really researched it. Is there really a difference and I mean a material difference between coolants?

Coolant is EXTREMELY important to the good operation of the engine!! And that is why I would never stray away from the manufacturer recommended formula. It is made by the exact same engineers who have made the engine and know exactly the different metals part of their manufacturing process, some of those being discussed here. That ensures corrosion protection and the good operation of the water pump and components.

I think its pentosin. Coolant is important, yes as stated here for the protection of the speciifc engine materials, including the gaskets. Wrong coolant could affect there parts in a very negative way. Better to stick with the correct g ratings. Dont think its critical to stick to oem, just the correct specs.

Porsche coolant is only $35/gal. http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//00004330105.html

Mixing coolant can be detrimental especially if the coolants are incompatible with each other... better to just use the Porsche coolant or flush completely before using a different type.
