Hi ..

I am in process of hard wiring my 9500 to the drivers side fuse panel and have a quick question. How is everyone keeping the wires tucked into the headliner? The wire is very thin and the gap for the headline is rather large (my audi was a tight fit) and just falls out.

 

One of the guys on the forum used small stick on velcro pieces that he placed up in the gap (out of sight ) every few inches or so between the headliner and the windshield and then wrapped those sections of the cord with velcro to attach it.

What I did when I installed my 9500 was purchase a section of neoprene foam pipe insulation ( available at home depot ), this is the type that usually is intended for 1/2" water pipe. A section is about 6 feet ling. Cost is about 5 bucks and compresses nicely to wedge the wire in place. i simply used a utility knife to cut a sliver slightly larger than the gap between the windshield and headliner and used that to wedge the wire in place and it stays completely out of sight.

Great info Cbst, I never thought about the pipe insulation. I will try both solutions out tonight since I have some Velcro at home .... I looked at that mount as well, I ended up buying one that attaches to the rear view mirror

 

I wrapped some of the fiuzzy side Velcro around the wire and pushed it up and it stays there just fine.

 

I tried wrapping the fuzzy side velcro on it last night and it was still loose ...

 

Mine worked fine, I used 1" wide wrapped loosely around the wire. If you already have the fuzzy wrapped around it. Try getting a few pieces of the hook side stuck up high in the gap and they should hold the fuzzy side in place.

 

I will give that a try tonight, its hard running around with no detector

 

All of the above sounds good. As another alternative: I cut a piece of small diameter rubber hose I had left over from a drip sprinkler line into three 1 inch sections and pushed them in after the wire was in place. They lock right in, aren't visible, and are easily removed if needed. Any small diameter tube would work.

 

I routed mine along the top edge and side edges of the windshield. To keep the wire in place (which is essentially phone cord with the Valentines) I put knots in (half hitches) periodically. The thing never falls out. Do a search for "Another Valentine Installation" by me.

 

I need to do this as well, how does the cord connect into the fuse box? Is there an un-used fuse that can be used? I don't want to cut/spice anything and I don't have the self-dimming mirror.

I skipped smart cord and hard wired to to sunroof line as per suggested, just up through light console.

One thing you don't want to do is bugger up wiring near a fuse box. Take the screw out that secures the fuse box to the bulkhead and look for open real estate within the fuse box to add your own fuse and wiring for the detector. Many guys do a fairly nice job integrating a detector, only to go cheap and feeble in the fuse box and then it not only looks like a cluge job, but will tell others later that you took a lot of shortcuts.
