Default Kudos to Fabspeed

This is not my first Porsche with Fabspeed exhaust products but probably the one most extensively modified. I installed their sport headers, 200 cell cat, maxflow mufflers and competition intake. I already had the IPD and with a free flowing exhaust I called and exchanged their stock unit (74mm) for the larger unit (82mm) and then added the GT3 throttle body (also 82mm). Then I sent my ECU to Fabspeed for an update to fully take advantage of the modifications and to eliminate the CEL at start-up. I think the extra air flow would cause P1095 which my Go Point said was the O2 sensor going from the min setting to the max setting at start up? I could clear it and be good to go but the ECU re-map has other benefits besides performance. I want to give a thank you to Evan from Fabspeed who handled the details for me and got the job done and that's pretty much why I've used them for the past 13 years. Here are some pics:

Looks nice almost should have wiped off the exhaust to show it off, it is that pretty.

My car runs on fab speed xpipe since 2009. Still works with no problems. It gave me CeL in 2011 as catalyst was probably burned a bit from all the track use but with regular steel extender pipes o2 sensors run fine and do not give cels. So for what it's worth catalyst seems to be good, bad one would have disintegrated already after 50+ something track days.
As of mufflers - they are nice and loud but I hardly see the point, same as intake. It would make sense to put on bigger gt3 intake may be. What fab speed has for CAI is worse than stock one as it sucks in air from the engine bay, it will reduce performance as you get hot air in.

Measured inlet air temps with Go Point of both stock intake set-up and the current set-up. No difference in intake temps.

You need to measure timing by looking at recorded data from your data logger on the track on a 95deg day after 20min run close to redline.
Those conical filters are usual for force induction systems but they push that air into an inter cooler so it does not matter. For NA cars it does matter a lot if you have proper isolation from the engine bay.

My apologies! I actually re-plumbed my house so I can switch between softened and un-softened water on that hose outlet. I washed the car after driving it with soft water and the exhaust still must have been a bit too warm. Heck I even washed the undercarriage while it was up in the air.

Looks good!

Did you have any issues with the header bolts? I've heard they can sometimes seized up... It's scaring me from attacking the header portion of the exhaust...

Do you have a 3.6 or 3.8? How do the gains feel?

OP....did you cut the second hole for the air intake? I had a Fabspeed single CAI but went back to stock. Got way to dirty and loss of torque on the bottom end.

I prepped that header bolts the day before with Liquid Wrench and they came off without any problems. Also replaced them with new ones as specified by the workshop manual.

I have a 3.6 and when my car was worked on last summer had a dyno performed so until I send my car back to Georgia again I won't be able to provide an objective comparison.

I did not cut out a second hole and will keep an eye out for the filters getting dirty. Thanks for that heads up. I cannot offer objective results without a post dyno run but there are quite a few mods in play; headers, cat, mufflers, competition intake, GT3 throttle body, 82mm intake plenum, and ECU tune. Not sure of the end result of this system but my initial impression did not include any loss of performance.

X2 I have the Fabspeed dual intake and when under way there is no difference between it and stock regarding intake temps. At idle or very low speeds the temp does run a little hotter, but it is hardly hurting performance at those kind of low speeds.

I think there is plenty of air coming into that area that another hole is not needed, but it certainly could not hurt.

I originally had the K&N intake and it definitely lost a lot of low end power. Sounded great, but a clear decrease in performance. I have the Fabspeed dual intake now and can't really feel any loss of low end power, although I wouldn't rule it out, but it feels a little better at the top end.

With the intake exposed I found the filter getting dirty real fast because there is too much open air and dirt from the road can easily find its way in that intake area. With the dual...maybe better low end but for me the cost to reward was too high. I went back to stock and the car is a quieter on the top end...way to much noise. Liked it at first, but wife doesn't like it so loud...so that factored in as well. If I was to get real performance I think the X-51 with the larger throttle body and dual sealed air box is the best bet. IMHO.

That's pretty much my feeling on all the aftermarket intakes, there is little reward and the money is better spent on just about anything else.

jkw911,

Firstly thank you for the kind words, that means a lot! Secondly, thank your for your continued support and many orders with Fabspeed, people like you are who we like to deal with and it makes my job that much more enjoyable.

I always enjoy talking to a fellow enthusiast and am happy to have been able to help you out!

Also, it took us over 10 months to design, test and finally approve our new Y-pipe intake for sale and I promise it would not have continued being after the first 3 months if there were no performance gains to be had.
