Ipod and pcm?
I have looked around in the past, and seen the normal options: mobridge, Denison, a/m double din... Just wondering if there have been any new advances in technology to get my iPhone to play music in my 997? Don't really care about Bt either.
I want good sound quality, and to not spend $1000! I am pleased with the tt stock Bose/PCM... I'm just sick of the 2 CDs in the car to listen to... Thoughts?

Porsche has an factory solution. A number of places carry it, such as SunCoast (no affiliation) here: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...997ELECTRONICS
I can't speak for the quality, hopefully others can, but it has to be better than the FM modulator approach I took in my 2006. Even though the noted solution is FM modulated, it apparently taps into the system into such a way that FM interference from surrounding stations is not an issue.
Editing: Looking at the ad it appears that this arrangement will not provide a charge to newer devices other than the iPod, if this is a problem.

I just put a call in for Eric @ Bumperplugs regarding the Dension unit. I don't have a CD changer so I am a bit concerned it may not be a straight forward install. I just bought a 2007 997 and I'm bummed it didn't even have an aux plug. I'll get back to you once I hear back from him.

I know that the lack of the CD changer isn't a problem other than paying the dealer a hundred bucks or so to change the programming of the PCM to think it does. You typically do this right after (or as part of) the Dension install.

I bought the Nav-TV iPod setup from a member on the 6speed forums a while back, and I can say that the audio quality is very good. Its a simple DIY - under an hour even if you fumble a lot. If you just want iPod connectivity and not all the bells n whistles (Bluetooth etc), this would save you some money.
I'm sure Dension/Mobridge also would have a basic model.
I've tried the FM modulator route - I bought one for $70 and still wasn't impressed.

I have the Dension with a dedicated iPod mounted in the trunk. If I were to do it all over again I would run the cable into the cabin and just control it from my phone. The PCM control is slow and clunky at best. It was an easy instal and has worked trouble free. I did forget to toggle the feed back to the cd changer during a service and it triggered an error. Dealer reprogrammed the cd changer code right there for free.

If you decide you want to run the cable back into the cabin, its not terribly difficult to get one through the firewall. If you remove the battery (you can actually just slide it to one side), there is a large rubber grommet (two to three inches in diameter). Make as small a slit in the grommet as possible and slide the cable through there. Using a flashlight, it's fairly easy to see the cable come through and retrieve from inside the car if you get your head down near the accelerator and look up towards the area of the grommet. Of course, you'll probably need a much longer cable. It doesn't appear that water ever successfully gets anywhere near the grommet, so a small slit should never cause a problem.

If you do decide to go down the Nav-TV route, the whole setup simply fits behind the PCM - no need to route cables around. Also, you won't even need any electrical tools - I never even had to cut a piece of wire.
No association with Nav-TV, but I did read up a lot before choosing.
For the first day I tried operating using the PCM controls, but direct operation from the iPod was best.
