I just bought a really nice '07 4S. The mileage was a little higher than I would have liked (59k) but the car is immaculate and the price was right. The dealer that I purchased the car from "said" he did a complete tuneup and showed me the work orders from the dealership maintenance shop that did it. I still required that the car be taken over to the local Porsche dealer for a PPI. The PPI came back without any issues but they did recommend the 60K service for $895.

Since this car is out of warranty and the fact that two dealers have gone thru the car, do you guys recommend that I get the 60K done?? I can do my own work if required and I have my own Porsche mechanics that I use for maintenance that I cant do myself. I had a 944 Turbo S that I worked on and BMW's that i installed forced injection and suspension on as well as anything short of digging into the valves.

I'd hate to pay this guy $895 for a few spark plugs.

I'm new to the 997.1 so I'm not really sure what is involved and if it is really necessary.

The only way to answer the question is for you to compare the "complete tuneup" work orders against the 60K mile service specified by Porsche and determine what was missed and what was completed. The maintenance specs are in the book that should have come with your car. There's really not too much maintenance required. There's no sense in just doing a 60K mile service blindly if some or all of it was recently done. For example, Spark plugs are due at 60K miles. This was most likely already done. Same goes for oil change and air filter. But you need to verify. Just do individual maintenance items that were not completed. It is not surprising that the dealer recommended a 60K mile service. They did not maintain the car and they have no way of knowing the history. So they are just going by the mileage.

What did the tuneup include? That should be in the records. If it included the spark plugs, then you don't need to worry about those, but the belt might need to be.

If you've done all of that on previous cars, you can do the 60,000k service. There's a DIY sticky here that can help you with the spark plug change and belt change.

Some will say do the coils at the same time with the spark plugs, others will say not to, but have an extra coil on you in case you break the connection during the replacement of the plug.

BTW, 59k for a 2007 isn't that bad. That's less than 10k miles a year.

Thanks for the replies, makes sense. I'll get out the 60K checklist and go thru the car myself one at a time, if it looks "iffy", I'll either do it or have my shop do it. One shop said it is time to flush the brakes for a 60K service.....I'll look at the DIY and wait for my maintenance manual to arrive before I try that...

If you have access the service records the plugs might have been done at the 40K service. If so then you can probably wait until you hit 80K.

recommends a brake flush at 2 year intervals. If you cannot verify that this has been done, do it first! "Old" brake fluid gets like varnish over time and really fouls up your braking system

Could someone please direct me to a website or tell me how to interpret the PPI numbers. I can't figure out the format for the ranges. Thanks.

I am not sure what website will have ppi numbers but many here know how to read a ppi quite well. Esp the dme overrev numbers. You could post them here and would probably get an accurate and informative reply.
