I think we know that this is an issue with the car, not the garage door opener. Could be a transmitter (car) like StormRune suggests. It's not a particularly complicated system. The car just mimics the transmitters that come with the door opener. If the car operates the door inconsistently, then the transmitter is probably at fault.

Since the original post, my wife's E550 Cab had this problem. The dealer replaced it and the button/switch assembly. Now it works consistently and from a good distance.

Works well with multiple door openers and multiple homes. Actually easier to program than many hand-held remotes.

The Homelink in a 991 probably works with the new garage door openers however I would be curious to know if a 2011/2012 997 Homelink works.
I'm glad I read this post! I had one of our openers replaced last year and gave up on getting HomeLink in our cars to work with it. Ordered the $28 repeater and everything works again. Awesome!

I just read an interesting thread on Garage Journal that reminded me of this thread--so I thought I would share.

Seems there's a growing problem with garage door openers and LED bulbs and fixtures. The LED bulbs generate so much radio interference that some garage door openers are very susceptible to malfunction when LED bulbs are used in the opener or LED bulbs or fixtures are installed near the opener.

The wall-mounted opener will work fine because it's hard-wired but openers will not always work once there is an LED bulb or fixture on nearby. Very interesting and I wonder if anyone's homelink issues are reated to the installation of an LED, but no one suspected a connection there.

Also, I found out that some openers are even prone to problems when CFLs are used with the opener fixtures as a few are wired to use the bulbs as resistors and the lower current draw of the CFLs can contribute to burning out circuit boards. Obviously this is a different problem all together but another issue of which I was not aware.

My sporadic Porsche homelink issues are not LED related but I found this information relevant nonetheless. Take it FWIW.

Not that it helps the OP but the Homelink in my 2006 997S works great. Operates 3 doors on my house from at least 60 feet away.

Had a new Chamberlain belt drive installed at my house in the spring. Even the installer could not get the system to link to my wife's BMW nor the 997.1.
After a few days.... I gave up.

I'm sure you tried this but...Homelink website has specific instructions by vehicle and by opener manufacturer. There were 3 Chamberlain models listed but don't know which one you have or if it is even listed. Try there if you haven't seen the info.
