Default Real Time Oil Temps?

I have the Go Point Technology but it does not support oil temps. Durametric will but not a setup that I would drive around with so I was wondering if there was any other wireless system that would provide oil temps as well as coolant temps?

I also have the gopoint port reader and use dashboard for data logging. I've come to the conclusion that the oil gauge us accurate enough for my purposes. Oil is slow to heat and cool and I thing the gauge is calibrated within reason. I'm more concerned about water tens as the gauge reads 175 but my data shows a constant fluctuation between 185 and 205 degrees.

From what I understand the water temp gauge is nothing more than an idiot light , it sits at 175°F unless the temp gets really high.

That is what I found too - my temps hold pretty steady at 189.

My Race Keeper data acquisition records oil and coolant temps. The analog gauges in the car are not accurate. Car analog coolant guage never moves from 175 and oil gauge will show 250 or slightly higher on the track but oil never goes much over 220ish according to the ECU connection on race keeper data

The root of the problem is that the OBD-II system was designed for emissions monitoring. Hence, oil temp was not included in the list of variables. Harry of Harry's Lap Timer has been trying to pull the oil temp from 911's without success. His app integrates with the Go Point OBD reader.

Although not a wireless solution, folks have been able to record oil pressure and temperature using the AIM Solo DL with CAN bus option.

Temperature data is (can be) heavily processed. Averaging. Peak limiting. Smoothing. In addition, the sensor location effects the data significantly. Thermal mass loading. Sensor type: thermocouple, RTD, thermistor. Long story short - temperature gauges should be used for trending. If my oil is 220 most of the time, then one week it's 260, something is up. a.k.a. Idiot Light like he said.
