Default Frozen Wipers

Just made my 09 997.2 a daily driver and noticed that the wipers freeze in very cold weather. Looks like the problem is that the mechanical design of the wipers has rivets and joints exposed vs a solid blade. I looked here and went to the dealer and couldn't find information on a product better designed for winter conditions.

Am I going to have to go to the local parts store for a nasty replacement or does someone know of a good quality replacement?

I've seen most wipers freeze, I doubt there's anything out there that will permanently resolve that issue for you. One of the many reasons you see wipers in the upright position than lowered when a car is parked outside and freezing conditions are expected.

I have the Bosch Icon beam wiper blades and they work fine. The end of passenger blade is slightly off the windshield when at rest, due to the curvature of the windshield, but otherwise they work fine.

This is a very common problem with nearly all wiper blades. When it gets really cold, and sustained cold, then they will start to accumulate snow and ice--necessitating periodic stops to clean then off. The heaters do a fairly decent job directing hot air to the base of the windshield for most winter scenarios, but when it is sustained below 10ºF then you will have issues. Another issue which was more common in real cold temps was the accumulation of snow and ice inside wheel wells--to the point that you couldn't steer the car, it you were traveling extensively straight for the longest time. (A ski pole can do wonders there). Again, it's a function of the right low temperatures, for a sustained period.

If its not raining.. just cold, you could dry the freezing wiper joints and lubricate them with a grease that will work in those low temps.. that at least would keep the water out of the pivoting bits for some time though not sure how long till water works its way back in.

Try Anco Winter blades ($8.00 @ Walmart). They work great in sub zeto temps.

I switch to OEM in the spring time as they cover a bit better on the passenger side.

X2

The winter blades are covered to prevent freezing of the frame.
