If the OP is from Portland, it is not salt. It has been cold around here and ODOT sprays slimy DE-icer everywhere. It sticks to the paint and collects road grime.

In PA they spray a salt brine on the roads and it gets into everything on the car. They've been doing it for about 5 years and the frames on our Suburban and Tahoe have really taken a hit from corrosion. That's why I don't use my Porsche in the winter months around here.

Holy cow if it is normal then it's going to be impossible to keep the car clean.
I washed the car a few days ago and this dust on the rear is after 25 miles of driving. I wiped some with my finger to show the difference.
In portland they do spray that sticky stuff when snow is on the forecast but today was just another dry cloudy day without rain.

Yeah, that's one of the issues with winter roads. Also when the engine is cold, the accumulated moisture in the exhaust system collects carbon from the exhaust and splatters the rear bumper. I took my car out recently on damp roads and pretty much the only place that got dirty was the rear bumper. I swear that some polishes, Zaino in particular, seem to actually attract dirt. Just as our wide tires seem to pull rocks out of the road
