If the OP is from Portland, it is not salt. It has been cold around here and ODOT sprays slimy DE-icer everywhere. It sticks to the paint and collects road grime.

In PA they spray a salt brine on the roads and it gets into everything on the car. They've been doing it for about 5 years and the frames on our Suburban and Tahoe have really taken a hit from corrosion. That's why I don't use my Porsche in the winter months around here.

I agree. I can't believe all that came from his exhaust. I get some grime on the back of mine, but absolutely nothing like that.

Holy cow if it is normal then it's going to be impossible to keep the car clean.

I washed the car a few days ago and this dust on the rear is after 25 miles of driving. I wiped some with my finger to show the difference.

In portland they do spray that sticky stuff when snow is on the forecast but today was just another dry cloudy day without rain.

My 09 spews out black carbon dust from the exhaust too. Black cars look better in the shade...

Yeah, that's one of the issues with winter roads. Also when the engine is cold, the accumulated moisture in the exhaust system collects carbon from the exhaust and splatters the rear bumper. I took my car out recently on damp roads and pretty much the only place that got dirty was the rear bumper. I swear that some polishes, Zaino in particular, seem to actually attract dirt. Just as our wide tires seem to pull rocks out of the road

I'm pretty sure if mine was black like yours, the dirt would be showing a lot more. Regardless...I like getting my baby dirty.

I agree. I will never own another black car until I am retired--Or I can hire a guy to wash it daily.
But no car looks better when clean than black....

Mine spends the winter in the garage, and isn't driven on rainy days still wash it once a week though, it's a magnet.

The Aerokit certainly seems to swirl the dirt around a bit more, yes.
