I never thought this question would draw so much... um ... pride? I guess when you own a torque wrench, you gotta tell the world!
Honestly, there are more gear heads on this forum than I thought.
Hey Gear Heads: POST MORE! You are the guys and gals that have the valuable stories and insights.

Having said that, perhaps there are styles of torque wrenches that I don't know about where this doesn't matter, but for the click type, this seems to be the storage procedure. No point in having a torque wrench that is only fooling you into thinking you are setting the correct torque.

It's not a good idea to leave your torque wrench set at anything other than zero when you store them. The reason for that is posted here.

I have a couple that I use all the time. The last time I chose the path of least resistance to road force my wheels/tires on my 951 the tech asked me about the variance in torque from 96 to 600 pounds on Porsche's and what i wanted the lugs torqued to...... At least he asked.

I have 2, 3/8 and 1/2 with a rolling tool chest and a complete assortment of metric tools, 3 floor jacks and jack stands...
Nothing better than wrenching on a Porsche, although they are getting harder and harder to do DIY's on.

If anyone is moved to purchase an American made torque wrench, from a family owned business, I happened to find this:

No relations, of course, but Harry Epstein is well known and beloved by many of us tool infatuated types.

Had a few lug nuts come off my X5 after torqueing with a 3 year old HF. A friend who uses a torque wrench tool daily said that to get the 96 I needed, my HF needed to be at 130. How do you recalibrate them once they are out of kilter?

My hf wrench was spot on vs my techs.

I inherited three, one dainty one for low torque apps, a medium range and a big brute, 45 year old, Williams, split beam torque wrench which can do the heavy work and split the parietal bones of looters too.
