What percent of Porsche owners own a torque wrench?
Hmmmmm.... rhetorical I know.
This is another variation on the poser vs enthusiast question, but I've been thinking about this more now that I moved from a Boxster to a 911. Maybe a beter question is: What is the percentage of torque wrench ownership by Porsche model? After floating on Boxster/Caymen boards and 911 boards, I get the distinct impression that the average Boxster Caymen owner is more of a gear head than a 911 owner - GT3 excluded. Ok, talk amongst yourselves.... Peace Bruce in Philly |
I know you may not have been looking for an exact answer, but I have seven; 2 x 1/2" 250 ft/lb, 1 x 3/8" 150 ft/lb , 1 x 3/8" micro 250 in/lbs. 3 x beam type, which I use for measuring things like torque to rotate when working on gears and stuff.
I have three myself. I always torque my lug bolts, and try to use a torque wrench whenever tightening steel bolts/fasteners into aluminum. Spark plugs get torqued to 22 ft-lbs.

5 total
as small as the beam type one to set up ring and pinions as large as the monster needed for my CL hubs i like to cover all ranges and not use a wrench at the bottom end or top end of its range. |
1/2" and 3/8th x 2. Two sets. One cottage one at home.
i own one; 1/2" drill for double checking lugnuts every once in a while due to my neurosis re tire pressure + lugnuts torque
I got one for centerlock as well.:banghead:
Have a GTS with center locks so I own a 3/4" split beam 200-600 ft/lbs.
I have one I bought from Snap-On. Love it and use if for the lug nuts every time.
Sorry for this naive question, but I was planning to get a torque wrench to torque my lug bolts, since I don't trust that the tire shop or local indie shop always does this. What do you think? Paranoia or wise?
I have 2 Snap-on T-wrenches, BUT I need to get one that will work with my centerlocks.
I have 2. One with a 3/8" drive and one with 1/2" drive which cover the t-range of most of the bolts on a Porsche.

Cuda: are you actually asking our thoughts on spending money on tools? OF COURSE you buy a torque wrench.
"Four" here. |

The question wasn't regarding the money, but whether or not I should check the torque on the lug bolts every time someone has the wheels off.
