Thanks to all for the advice on my potential Porsche purchase, and the DME Report issues.
Torn on what to do, love the car, and the dealer seems straight up with me.
Any members here know how/who to contact at PCNA to ask about this issue?
To the last poster, a missed downshift, say 5 th to 4 th that goes bad ( 5th to 2nd) can zing the revs into range 3 or higher! In my case revs went into range 3,4,5 for less than half a second, and car has had no issues for over 146 operating hours since the event.
Will keep you posted.

Negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate some more for a GREAT price with the selling dealership. It's the end of the season, and it's not like 911's are flying out the door right now.

Call PCNA and ask them your questions. 800-767-7243. Be persistant. Get names. They like to blow you off to the dealership level, so stay on 'em.

I had this same situation happen to me a yr ago. My C2S had a mis-shift by someone previously and the car had a CPO good for 5 yrs. I wondered how they would CPO it with range 3-6 DME. What I think happened is it was CPO'd then another 1000 miles was added while it was up for sale at the Porsche dealership. Anybody could have come in and test drove it and mis-shifted it. Now does the dealer take the CPO away? I don't think so. The car was mint and everything I wanted so I bought it and have been driving it for a yr now with no issues. Its hard enough to find the perfect car for color, options and price. The when one mis-shift appears on the DME we freak out. For me it was a risk I was willing to take and I felt backed by CPO I could prove I didn't do the mis-shift by the hrs on the report. I discussed it with my local dealer and he is fine with it. The event happened over 7000 miles ago. Best on luck on the car and let us know how it turned out for you.

Wow, a 1,000 miles of test drives?

Yes, the car came back to the dealership with 2300 miles on it. When I found it 6 months later, it had 3300 miles on it. I asked about that and they said the owner of the dealership liked this car and drove it regularly, so maybe it was him that missed the shift !

On behalf of brother Frank and me, a big THANKS to all who responded here. Frank has made his decision and he is going to pass. Car, dealer, dialog was all on the up and up, but he just didn't feel compelled to go for this particular one at this time.

He'd be giving up a gorgeous 2008 Special Edition (1 of 250) Boxster S (GT3 orange/black) in flawless shape with 8K miles, plus a wad of cash and just felt he needed to pass.

So, the search for the "right" 997 Coupe continues. He is looking at 2006+ C2S or C4S, 6spd, with almost "mandatory" options of PASM, Sport Chrono, sports seats, AeroKit, and PSE. Any leads are appreciated!

Great combo he's searching for, although I'm a bit biased. I was looking (and found) the same car myself. Just tell him it'll be worth it when he finds that perfect example. The aero kit completely changes the look/attitude of the car. And remember that PASM comes standard on the S.

06 S, Guards Red, 6 speed, aerokit, PSE, full leather, sport chrono, heated adaptive sport seats with crest, painted console, Bose sound, red gauges, red belts, Carrera sport wheels.

Half the price of new and I wouldn't have spec'd it any differently if I'd ordered it myself. These cars are bargains for what they offer IMO.
