Default Remove rotor backing plate for better cooling?

Hi Folks

Is the backing plates on a 997.1 S used to direct the air flow to the rotor? I have gt3 style front ducts but still having a bit of heat at the front. Or is it better to remove the backing plate? What is it there for?

I cant imagine that the breaks would be cooler with the back plate removed. I think the air has to be ducted in to increase cooling (like you have). I believe the plate would help channel the ducted air. I do not believe the plate would inhibit he radiant heat transfer much (most is dissipated from the vents) . Besides it would help protect the breaks from the inside. I am not a racer so I could be way off.

You need bigger brakes for cooler temperature with your brakes. That backing plate keeps heat away from the rubber boot on the lower arm so if you remove it you should cut it to keep the shielding around the rubber boots.
