Marin or SF independent Porsche mechancis
Wife asked me what independent Porsche mechanics I would go to in Marin or SF. Asked on local mom's club. So far all my Porsche maintenance has been done at Sonnen under warranty (very happy with them btw). My warranty expires early next year and I'm also interested if I ended up keeping my 997 out of warranty. Hi-Tec Automotive in San Rafael have good yelp reviews. Any other recommendations?

Hi-Tec is very good; they do not maintain my '80 SC however they did re-build the tranny a while back.
I currently use Peter Wilms who owns (Peter and Wolf Car Co in the Canal off of E. Francisco) for the SC and he will service my (new to me...fetching it in VA in 9 days!) '10 C4S after the CPO ends in 03/16.
S-Car-Go in San Rafael is also very good and there are a couple of others in SF that get mentioned as good shops but I've never used anyone except Aldo's (long time ago).

FD Motorsports are great but they're not in sf or the north bay. You'd need to head about an hour and a half east.

All suggestions here are very good.
I'm in Corte Madera, and my go-to is HiTec. Super close by, personable, and good at what they do. Also a plus to find them rubbing elbows and supporting local PCA events.
ScarGo also has a great reputation.
There's also another good spot, ProShop on Irwin Street, just up the block from ScarGo-
They also have a great reputation, and have been in business here for more than 30 years.
All three shops are within 5 minutes of each other.
I'd heard great things about Darin's shop (FD Motorsports) over in Brentwood so I emailed Darin about his Fister-D exhaust, and they've been super friendly and helpful. I'll definitely make the trip out there sometime to check them out, but will keep my regular maintenance work local.
Lots of good independent choices in Marin for sure.
HiTec: (415) 258-9619
ScarGo: (415) 485-2606
ProShop: (415) 454-2966
Peter & Wolf: (415) 453-3501
Give the one that sounds best to you a call, and see. I don't think you can go wrong.

Earlier this year, I did a money shift on the main straight at Thunderhill. When releasing the clutch, I felt the engine speed up instead of slow down so I quickly depressed the clutch to avoid over-revs. To confirm, I called all of the local independents to find someone who had the equipment to generate a DME report. Only SCarGo confirmed so that's where I went. BTW, the report was clean with no range 1 over-revs
