Default Front License Mount: Nice Product

I purchased the Skene Design License Plate holder and installed it. Very happy with the look. Thought I'd share with the rest of you who need to have a front plate.

Thank you for posting this - I've been running without a front plate because I can't bear to spoil the curved nose of the car.

This looks like a pretty reasonable way to mount it.

Any problems with impeded airflow? Did you measure your temps before/after?

Derek,

I can't say that I did a scientific study as I thought that the center cavity was aesthetic and not all that functional. However, I just completed a spirited loop of about 150 miles and saw no changes in the gauges.

You're correct Mike. There's no intake in the center, hence no effect from blocking it.

Can you expose the photo better so that we can actually see the hardware? It's hard the way you have posted it.

Edgy, I can try, but of course that is the look I'm going for.

I will look at getting some close ups to show the actual hardware that is hidden from a normal view.

Here are some close up photos showing the front view.....you can't see the hardware at all!

Also, a photo from the rear showing the hardware. One nice feature is that the hardware allows for adjustability vertically, effectively by 2x the height of the plate. Additionally, and this is really nice, the design allows a tilt adjustment so you can make it vertically plumb or align it to the general curve of the fascia design.

Thanks! Just ordered one to replace my tow hook mount (I've never been happy with the non-centered look).

Jcnesq... That was what drove me too. I had an opportunity for the tow hook mount through my dealer. Sales guys offered to get me one. But, while I acknowledge many enjoy the look and convenience, , my mind requires too much symmetry!

Is that license plate frame there to cover hardware? The cheap black is really out of place IMO. Also a bummer to have to drill holes and I wonder if high speeds can cause the bumper to tear or deform.

Looks much better than the tow hook though

The hardware is covered by the plate itself. So, even without the frame, the plate would block the view of the hardware. The frame is only there as my personal preference to edge the plate in black. I admit that this is a cheap frame that I had sitting around. But, I personally like it.

The holes are two small 7/64 holes and the best thing is that they are drilled on the underside of the lip for the cavity. So, i can decide to remove the bracket and the holes won't be seen by anyone... a nice consideration to the next owner if they dont live in a state that requires plates. It was either that or drill holes directly on the face for the Porsche issue plate holder. I prefer the former.

I'll add my +1 here. Have them on my car for a year and 10k miles now. No issues. Hey, I guess that means I just passed my anniversary for owning it. Time flies (esp in a Porsche

On 986 Boxster S, center opening supports additional OEM oil cooler; not sure if 911's had similar. I wonder if installing the holder on those cars would have an effect on engine temps. Maybe not so much for normal street driving. Would be nice if bracket facilitated easy tag removal for track days.

Megsfolks - did you purchase the extra short model as recommended on the Skene web site.

Not sure if I have the bracket the screws into the upper bumper lip adjusted right or not but the brackets hit the front of the bumper both on the top and bottom.

Skene only provided two rubber buttons for the back of brackets for bottom.

Any thoughts would be appreciated from anyone who has installed the Skene brackets.

Could be I've always hated drilling holes in Porsche's and just don't want to screw it up.

Thanks
