The 997 has no more complex battery replacement than any other car. Turn off the car. Remove the key. Pop the hood, and take off the plastic cover pieces. Note the orientation of the battery (which side is +, etc. Remove the tie-down bolt. Loosen up the terminals. Now, if you're not seriously overweight, step into the bottom of your trunk and reach in and pick up your battery. Take it out. Clean up the battery area. Wash it, neutralize that area with baking soda and water. Clean it thoroughly. Even wax the painted areas. Provided the foot print is exactly the same, now grab the new battery and step into your trunk and place the battery in the correct orientation. Tighten up the terminals. Tighten the tie down bolt. Reconnect the drain if applicable. Provided you have the terminals in the right place, turn the key and start the car. It will throw a bunch of codes. Ignore them. They will self clear once you begin driving the car. It's simple! (But your dealership will try to make it appear to be really hard!)

Says the man who obviously never had to change the battery in a VW New Beetle.. .now that battery change is a PAIN. You have to unbolt the power steering fluid reservoir, unbolt a clamp bolt way down, and then angle and extricate the battery sideways, inevitably shredding your gloves or skin lest you have childlike small hands.
The 997 design, in contrast, is heaven. Granted there is more room.
