Default Thinking of 2nd vehicle ........

I've been using my 05 997S as DD for almost 3 years now.
It has new engine thnx to IMS failure under CPO. : )
So don't really want to drive it EVERY day.

I'm thinking about a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited ( 4 Dr.)

whatta ya think ????

Well I am from Oklahoma and Jeeps are everywhere. I do not own one but there must be some appeal and those who own one love them.

I won't worry too much. IMS failure is like 0.1%. You are 10x more likely getting into car accident then IMS failure.

I have a older YJ and love it, not sure I would ever get rid of it. Do you live in a warmer climate? Need 2 or 4 doors?

I have a Sahara TJ purchased new...hard top and doors... Wife loves it so much she took it and I never get to drive it. Has been a very good vehicle, has 189,0000 miles on it and looks new. Been all over Texas in it, beaches, ranches, Big Bend.... fun, but it is a jeep...

I think with the IMS issue already addressed, I would weigh the extremely tiny likelihood of spending $20K on a repeat failure as against the certainty of spending $20K on another vehicle. But if you want a Jeep then get one. If I wanted another car to switch off with it would be a quiet cushy boulevard cruiser with an automatic...like a 991 PDK.

JK. But no, like a Mercedes E or Bimmer 5 coupe.

Point is, it's basically to each his own.

I had a 4 door JK and although they don't do any one thing(besides go offroad) great they are really good at all kinds of things. We drove ours to Florida from PA (1000 miles each way) 3 years in a row. wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs in the back. We put our luggage in a hitch basket. Great in the snow. Take the top off and enjoy the sun. It drives remarkably well for what it is on the interstate at 75MPH, old ones just could not do that.
It is one car I regret getting rid of. I had mine built up on 35" tires and used tube doors all the time besides the winter.
Take one for a drive but be prepared for sticker shock. They are not cheap. Do not think you are getting a standard SUV ride either.
I got rid of mine as I needed a 911 and ended up buying a 91 Grand Wagoneer as a winter beater/travel vehicle for soccer tournaments/beach etc. I am almost done with the restoration of the thing and I love it.

Unless you have a job that prevents you from driving your Porsche, I say drive it.

Good choice, the Wrangler is an icon like the 911 and they hold their value really well. Look at the Rubicon with the better diff.

+1 on David's comment above. I bought mine for $24 in 07. Sold it 3 years later and 36000 miles for $20
Not too shabby

Ha! I love those Grand Wagoneers and from what I've heard, they've become very sought-after by the nostalgia and hipster set - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years' time, especially after you've restored it, your GW "beater" might be worth as much as your P-car - either way, happy motoring

Thanks,
Drove her to work today for fun, lots of rain. Yesterday at soccer practice there was someone that waited 25 minutes by the truck to see if I would sell it. That truck gets more attention than my Pcar and certainly more positive comments.
Good luck in your search

Thanks. The guy (assuming it was a guy) waited around for 25 minutes? I'd say that's more than a casual inquiry - certainly a good sign for appreciating value! Doing some quick arithmetic, with any luck I'll look forward to fielding the same level of interest in my 2006 Subaru wagon by, say, 2027
