Not sure how accurate data is...but here you go. It is rather old and to be fair I wonder if Escort has upgraded the shifters over the years. Maybe someone has more recent data?

This is a recent comparison the the Blinder 904, need to search for the 9500ci... I came to the conclusion with the Laser Interceptor, "don't leave home without it". Easily paid for itself.

2. Has anyone installed these detectors, how do you update the software/defender database on these (after they have been installed).
3. Does the 9500ci work well in practice. I have the 9500ix, which I like.
4. I like it that the 9500ci is undetectable by SPECTRE.
Ive had my 9500ci a little over a year now.
the 9500ci is a great unit, its not without its trade offs though. i use the 9500ci in my DD. it was a balance of what i was looking for, and i have found it invaluable.

i think the very best custom installed set up would be the Bell STiR plus Laser Interceptors. the LI are the only rear proper laser defense as they are diode based rather than the LED type that Escort uses.

having said that, its not a perfect world, i installed the unit myself and didnt feel like installing, and maintaining two independent systems. so the compromise was the 9500ci. what you give up in laser protection you gain in $ savings and ease of installation / management.

the 9500ci when mounted properly will give you tremendous range and its very quiet because of its GPS (my gps antenna is mounted under the dash, no problems)

i wouldnt bet my life on the 9500ci laser diffusers but they are better than nothing.

as an aside. some people have had EMI issues with the vehicle electrical system, triggering re-occurring false laser alerts. this happened to me. i installed a EMI filter to the power supply of the 9500ci and it corrected the issue for good (in my case i was getting laser alerts when engine RPM jumped while passing traffic).

the support from the Escort radar forums has been great, and i havent felt the need to update the radar or firmware. its works great out of the box. Redlight detection ect is an added bonus. I drive through VA annually (non radar detector state) and never had a problem, was even pulled over there once and the unit was not detected (was blatantly speeding while ignoring the 9500ci).

the nice thing about the laser interceptor product is that it can be switched to parking sensor mode with a discrete switch should you find yourself being interrogated by the law, something the 9500ci doesnt offer.

Have your laser diffusers gone off and kept a cop from coming off after you? The Laser Interceptor parking sensor mode is pretty cheesy, it basically is a loop that goes on at start up.

These days, running the Waze app on your phone might be the best defense. I have also heard about Trapster, but I find Waze to be pretty good.

LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes. They are all diodes. For laser systems they likely use laser emitting diodes.

ZR4 is not a diode based system. It's performance leaves a lot to be desired but is a good middle ground.
M27 is diode based system and is far more effective

Sorry forgot the exact details... I researched the stuff when I bought it a year ago, installed it and moved on w my life... Google urself for details.

Diode - A Laser Diode (LD), also called a Coherent Laser Emitting Diode (CLED). It is the light source in a LIDAR gun. Also used as the light source in high-end jammers like the Laser Interceptor, although using diodes does not necessarily mean that a jammer is high-end. Note that "diode" itself is not technically the correct term, as there are many types of diodes that are not laser diodes. However, when you see the term "diode" by itself here, referring to a jammer, it is referring to a laser diode.

If the ZR4 emitters are not diodes, the what exactly do you think they are?

Laser diode is a type of diode, yes, but the word diode does not mean laser diode. Diode is ALL types of diodes, from traditional infrared LEDs that emit a broader spectrum of light in an unfocussed fashion (ala remote controls) to include lens focused LED laser diodes.. But they are all diodes. A specific website does not get to redefine a common term like diode to its own preference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode

I'm not arguing that the ZR4 may not be as effective. I'm pointing out that it is a diode based solution.

FYI, 9500ci front Laser ShifterPro sensors installed in the intakes on the front of a 997.2
