Default Pleasant Surprise

I swapped out my standard PDK steering wheel for the Sport Design paddle shift model. The wheel I bought has the "sport" and "plus" lights, but since I have an '09, I didn't expect them to work. Guess what? They do! Bonus.

How did you do that? I did the same swap and my lights don't work. Not even Suncoast's best tech can get them to work.

Well, to say "I" swapped it out was an overstatement. The guys over at Circle Porsche did it. I didn't even notice these lights were working until I got on the freeway.

Late '09 build, perhaps? I'll have to check the mfg date.

Does the right steering wheel spoke say "launch control" if you set it up (sport plus, hold brake, floor the gas)? I am considering doing the same thing. I have a 2010 so it all should work. Do you like the paddle shifters? The steering wheel is awesome, I know!

I haven't set it up for launch, yet, so don't know if the lights on that side of the wheel work. I'm going to guess it will, since the other sport chrono plus modes light up on the left side.

I'm still getting used to having one function per side, rather than the ability to upshift or downshift on either side of the wheel. But, so far, so good!

Dmitri, I drove a Sport design steering wheel today, love the looks but I found the paddles in the way most of the time of where I liked to keep my hands. What have you found so far?

Rob,

Here's a picture of the dash. You can the "sport" and "plus" lights illuminated on the left side of the wheel mother "launch control" light is not illuminated.

So far, I'm liking this set up. The way I hold the wheel, my fingertips fall just behind the paddles. I can't drive the lazy way I used to - elbow on the window sill and shifting with just my left hand. But, I do like the way this wheel looks.

Hope this helps.

Thx for pic Dmitri. Very nice looking. I decided to get the standard wheel but w the Pdk light bar just above the center section. I just didn't like where the backs of my knuckles were touching the paddles when holding the steering wheel the way I do most of the time. I have sand beige interior and went w a black steering wheel. Pics to follow. Enjoy your car, really looks good!

With the paddles and stalks on the steering column, there is a lot going on back there. Still, I like the look and am getting used to the single function on each side.

BTW, for those with '09s, I'm told that the "sport" "plus" lights are features that can, but are not supposed to be, activated in cars without whatever module is in the '10s and later cars that also activates the "launch control" light.
