Default 997.2 S weight vs. 997.2 C4S

Hi Guys,

We are giving a little thought to getting a CPO 997.2 S of some sort (not sure which, but it has to be an S). I've had a bit of trouble locating the weight (I've easily found dimensions, suspension info and lots of other things, but not weight). Also not sure if we would consider a Coupe or Cab, as we do enjoy the top down feature of our Boxster.

Is there a significant weight difference when going with a 997.2S with AWD?

What is the weight of the following
a 997.2S
a 997.2 S Cab
a 997.2 C4S
and a 997.2 C4S Cab?

Any production years to choose specifically or to avoid? Although I think we would be sticking to 2010-2012.
Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Dino

Anyone know what options give rise to the 200Lbs + variance in the same model (ie, manual coupe, S or base, etc) that much weight will suck up hp - maybe better to go light with the options both economically and power wise persepctive?

Main thing is to get a good one Dino. And the rest will be history.

Why the fixation on weight? Cause unless you are throwing it around a track every weekend you wont notice (or care)

As Mumbles said decide which best suits yiur purpose and then find the best example/deal

I might think about the extra weight for c4 vs c2 (especially if since I am not in a cold environment) but I would not skimp on equipment that I wanted for sake of saving weight. Even if my full leather were 20 pounds heavier I would still take it ect.

Hi guys,

I don't track my cars. My question about weight was just to have an idea of the difference in weight between the 997.2 S and my Boxster. I have not actually driven a 997.2 S yet, but I know I don't want something that feels or weighs in close to what the old 928s weighed. I've driven one a few times, and its a nice GT cruiser, but it felt a bit too much like an MB Coupe.

My Boxster feels quite nimble, and I like that. To be honest, I am exploring my options and considering whether to go with a 997.2S (if I can find a nice CPO one with options I want), vs ordering either a new Boxster S or Cayman S. I just read about the disaster involving Beverly Hills Porsche and it does give me second thoughts about a CPO car, even though I've had a great experience with a Porsche Dealer and a CPO car.

I would definitely look for a car that has the options I want, and not have weight stop me from getting them (Full Leather, Sport Seats, Sport Exhaust, PASM, Sport Chrono, Xenons with dynamic cornering). No idea whether I'd go with a manual or PDK.

So at the moment, I'm just gathering info and trying to figure out what I want to do.

Thanks for your thoughts and help with this.
Best regards,
Dino

What is the weight of the Boxter? I have a cab so my car is closer to 3300 and I feel it is light and tossable when I need it to be. Does not feel heavy, not a gt cruiser. I have a z4 as well and it feels heavier than my 911. And I love the PDK, chrono, lights, and wish I had sport exhaust.

Hi Chris, it weighs around 2980. I have driven PDK in a new Boxster S, Cayman S, and 991 C4S, but I've never driven a 997.2 S. I am curious to see how it feels. A 997.2S definitely has more power than my Boxster RS60 which has 251lb/ft of torque and 303 for BHP, but it does weigh more.

I have sport chrono, sport seats, sport exhaust, full leather, 19" alloys, Xenons etc...and I'd pretty much want those in most cars I would consider.

For those that wonder why ask about weight (and I'm not as crazy as some Porsche owners when it comes to weight of a vehicle), there is an interesting video on youtube, in which famed Porsche enthusiast/restorer/tuner Alois Ruf speaks about cars and weight. Its a multi part video, I just located the 1st part. Anyway, he says you can add lots of horsepower but its not a substitute for a car being light weight and the way it handles and feels. I don't need an ultra light weight vehicle, but I don't really want a GT cruiser was my only point.

200lbs is a noticeable difference for spirited street driving, and I'm not sure why some say they don't notice it. I can feel a difference when I have a 200lb passenger vs. not.

Between Boxster and Carrera you wouldn't feel the weight difference as much as you would feel the difference in weight distribution!

Both cars are fairly light compared to most other sport cars out there, the way they handle though is different, you would feel rear heaviness and that the back-end wants to control the direction of the car and you need to learn how to utilize the best handling out of it.

Best thing is to drive one.

PS. if you're wondering the extra weight ruins the extra power, then absolutely not, that just tax extra lbs pales in comparison to the power you gain. They are much faster.

I definitely plan to drive one to see what I think of it. Its been years since I've spent any quality time in any type of 911.
