Air conditioning cuts out a little when accelerating
Is it normal? If I push it hard, I can tell the AC does not blow as cold or as hard. Just curious. It seems to go back to normal a minute later if I stop driving hard.

NOT normal..
The compressor clutch circuit gets opened during WOT operations but that should NOT affect the blower speed. Let's suppose that what you're actually saying is that the airflow warms during hard driving periods. In that case if the engine cooling water jacket begins to climb toward overheating and then the compressor clutch circuit is opened to help with engine cooling. This latter even might be the result of failed condensor/radiator cooling fans.

I want to believe most modern sport cars cut off the air cond compressor at WOT. I say this because driving my 911 with or without the air conditioner on doesn't appear to impact lap times too significantly. Would you believe the Ferrari Challenge cars keep their air conditioners in and I didn't notice significant difference in their lap times.

i was just going to chime in with this. frankly i'm not exactly sure one way or t'other re: this thread topic but i can say that the few times i have inadvertently left the AC on during a track session, i really havent noticed signif diff in lap times. (what...? it gets HOT on the grid, dagnabbit, but i simply forget to turn it off during pit-out!)

Pre-heated, condenser pre-heated, airflow for cooling that engine......

HiJack: Sometimes mine will go from cool to a little warm and musty for a few seconds and back to cool. Normal driving and the cabin filter has been changed.

I just bought a 2011 Turbo S and I notice the same thing after WOT. Air is a bit warmer and humid for just a few seconds after and then returns to normal. I've only noticed it on some high speed runs though not just getting on it around town. Car only has about 1300 miles on it. I have to believe this is Normal.

Basically all cars shut down the A/C compressor during WOT. In addition, with some cars, the loss of vacuum caused by the throttle being wide open can cause the vents in your dash to open or close if they are vacuum operated. Everything goes back to normal with moderate throttle. When I was a kid, my dad had a 1955 Chevy with vacuum operated windshield wipers. At WOT, the wipers came almost to a halt.

Page 89 of my owners manual (2011 Turbo S) says that this is normal. Under the General Instructions for Air-Conditioning Compressor--"Can switch off briefly if engine is under an extreme load to ensure sufficient engine cooling"
