Default Sport Exhaust Issue

I have a ’06 997 (45K miles) with factory sport exhaust that is permanently on by disconnecting the connector. I have a raspy/vibration like sound sometimes when lightly accelerating around 1500 RPM. It seems to be worse when the engine is cold.

I am not sure if it is coming from within the exhaust (my guess) or is an external rattle. I thought it was always there, but lately it has gotten much louder.

I will try taking it out of sport mode for diagnosis, but wondered if anyone else has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. Common problem. What you are experiencing is the dreaded fractured band issue with the PSE. Routinely, if driven enough when the car is under warranty, Porsche will pick up the tab. However, with so few miles on it, the problem didn't manifest itself until years later. (And you thought buying a low miles car was a good deal!)

Had this happen to mine as well. Got the brackets all welded up and strengthened, now all you hear is sweet music!

Same here. My local shop removed the mufflers, welded up the brackets and reinstalled for not much $. 100% fixed.

i just found out I have two issues.
1. The bracket was broke and welded back
2. Baffle inside one muffler is toast.

Vampire, how do you know the baffle in the muffler is toast?

My mechanic, whom I trust, told me it was toast. He would try to fix it if he thought he could.

He did fix a broken weld on the mounting bracket and that did not help.

The car sometimes makes a loud raspy sound under light acceleration in the 2000- 2500 RPM range and it is worse when the car is not warmed up. I can hear that it is coming out of one side and not the other.

I have my PSE turned on by default and cannot turn them off until I reconnect the wires. I will do that tonight an see if that makes a difference, but I like the note of the PSE in loud mode.

I have the original system at home, but was wondering what other systems people like? Fabspeed?
I don't need power improvements as I don't track this car.

If you decide that you want to go the Fister route, PM me. As you may know, they apparently sound practically identical to the PSE in sport mode. I've got an almost new Fister 997.1 exhaust system that I'll be listing in a couple of days.
