Jaguar F Type
What do you think of the new Jaguar F Type? Comes in 3 models, two V6 supercharged, one V8 Supercharged. I saw one on the road today in white, beautiful car.
Do you consider it a competitor the the 911 Cabrio?

Good Chris Harris review of the F-type up against a 991 Cab and Vantage Cab. It does seem like a European muscle car that could be a lot of fun, but overall I am not sure if it ticks all the boxes to be a great sports car. One thing that stood out in the review was how perplexed Harris was about the weight of the car given it's relatively small footprint compared to the 991.

I test drove one of these things (the "middle" super-V6 model) a few weeks ago. I was impressed by many things - the transmission, the features, the interior fit & finish. I didn't care much for the styling, the fit on the exterior panels wasn't quite perfect, the brakes were a little over-boosted, the exhaust note was just stupid, and it rode like a Boxster/Cayman. For someone who wants a nice cruiser like a 911 cabriolet PDK, this would make a nice alternative. In comparison, although the 911 is a better driver's car, it is a bit austere compared to the Jag. And a lot more expensive.

Car and Driver July 2013 calls it '"Ferocious" - With fresh Porsches above and below in price and a new Corvette roadster due late this year, the F-type would have been ripped to shreds had it arrived as a lap kitty. Jaguar bred this one to thrive in the sports car jungle.

Drove the V-8. Exhaust sounds are fantastic. Looks great too. At one intersection I had people in adjacent lanes, on both sides, taking cell phone pics simultaneuosly.

Saw one on the road the other day, the higher end one. Car is actually beautiful, oddly much nicer in person that the photos I had seen. I absolutely hated the exhaust noise, lots of pops and bangs. Sounded like a Japanese car. On paper, and for the price, seems like a formidable competitor to the 991. Lack of back seats is a deal killer for me, though.

Great looking car. Should be able to pick one up in a few years for half price.
Does anyone know the pedigree of the SC V6? Is it an entirely new engine? Pure conjecture on my part, but I did see that the SC is an Eaton unit, just like on Audi's 3.0T which leads me to believe that this is an Audi engine.

I think it's a great looking car and would consider it as an alternative. The Porsche pricing increases, especially for options, have left me looking elsewhere for my next car in a year or two without a doubt.
