Question Cab or coupe

I have had 4 911s (1 996 & 3 997s including one turbo for a very short time and all have been cabs, 6 speeds, and AWD. I first posted 2 weeks ago about my GT3 wheels and which rear tire size to consider on my '07 C4s cab. I received a lot of good comments and am still evaluating my options. In the meantime I have been considering a 991, a pre-owned C2S coupe w/ PDK. I really like the car and options but not having a cab seems really strange. It is also the first narrow body car I would own. And "automatic"! I know this is a personal decision but I welcome any help/thoughts. Thanks.

I prefer the body tightness of a coupe better than the cab. Also, how often do you put the top down?

I too have always had cabs. I love the top down, even on really hot days here in Texas. That said, I have decided to try a coupe this time around. My wife and kids are not fans of the top down and I have always loved the look of the coupes MUCH better. Cabs with the tops up just dont look good, not with a soft top. I was hoping for a hard top 911 (like the 335 / M3) at some point but it does not look like that is happening. So coupe it is this time!

On the hunt now.

My top is down nearly daily but I live in AZ. I really think it depends on how much marginal utility you will get out of each. For me its a no brainer, cab all the way. If I lived elsewhere then mayve a coupe would be a better decision. I will say driving the 911 with the top down is amazing.

Targa. Best of both worlds.

+1, I like cabs too but in hardtop form. Canvas tops are old fashion, hard to maintain, not as quiet with top up. I prefer the looks of the coupe but if the 911 came in hardtop that would be nice.

I loved a convertible (Honda S2000) when I had it and I had the top down whenever it was 50+ degrees and not raining. I had that car in Cincinnati, so similar weather to yours in KY. Now that I am living in Arizona I really wish I had a convertible again, I am in the early stages of trying to convince my wife that a used 911 is 'practical'. But even though I loved having a convertible, I think the 911s look 10x better in coupe form and I would probably only buy a 911 coupe (or targa).

Also, my 2 cents on the C2 v C4, the wider 4 does look a little better but doesn't make a huge difference in looks in my opinion, and considering you don't really see much snow in KY I wouldn't consider it a necessity.

Oh, and even though the PDK is great, I still love and prefer a true manual!

Go with the cab. You will regret not having the option. It think the cab looks great with the canvas top up or done. it's awesome. I drove it with the top down a whole lot of days through winter. Now that it's summer, there's no experience like it.

I was dead set on a Cab, but after driving both changed my mind instantly. I live in New England, the Coupe was much better if you drive often. It has better visibility, felt more solid, and much less noise. I also feel the Coupe looks much better, but the 991 changes things. From a looks stand-point the 991 does not have that hump on the back, it is a cleaner looking Cab IMO.

I do not think you could go wrong either way. How often do you put your top down?

The way you state your question leaves no doubt as to what you want.....and it's what I'd want....GET THE CAB!!

There is nothing like a cab and I love the soft top! I wouldn't buy one with a hard top and Porsche was smart to keep them although the 991 has already started Porsche in that direction....sadly!

Besides everything looks better with the top down....especially Porsche and girls!

Good Luck with your choice!

Tom

I find cab vs coupe question a lot like blonde vs brunette comparison. It is almost all about preference. I am a blonde/cab guy and I love my pdk too.

Wow, great comments & no one laughed (at least OL) and said I was too strange for asking the question! I do agree it is kind of a blonde vs brunette decision. I like both! I do put the top down a lot, and I guess I would miss it. My wife rarely drives it and hates the top down. We do get a lot of rain here in KY and a few snow storms a year (yes my car has seen snow many a times! I drive it w all season DWS tires in winter on P-classic wheels and 10mm narrower front & rear than stock! Soooo, 991 C4s cab w PDK it is! When I can afford one!

Agree that the lines of a 911 coupe are more pure and beautiful. However, as much as I like driving my car in general, driving it with the top down doubles the pleasure, easily. Unless it's below 45 or above 95 or raining, there's a 99% chance that I've got the top down. I couldn't imagine not owning a cab.

I agree with Tom, I think you're already leaning towards the Cab.
Can't really go wrong with either Cab or Coupe.
Initially, I went shopping for a Coupe, but my wife found our Cab. I'd been "cured" of ever desiring a convertible again (too many British cars in my teens)...or so I thought.
The top down experience is just amazing, but you already know that. I'm very glad we went the Cab route!
