Congrats!
How would you compare 997 to 981? I too have a 997.2 C2S 6spd and considering switching to a 981C GTS for a mid engine experience. Would this be a big downgrade you think?

Trip to Le Mans 24hr last week to support the Porsche 963s, sadly the Ferrari, Toyota and Cadillac took up the podium spaces. Great weekend

She’s on standard Carrera S PASM dampers with H&R springs

15mm wheel spacers front (due to track geo camber) and 5mm wheel spacers rear

I had a 981 Boxster GTS. Terrific car and provides a classic mid-engine experience. Both 981 and 997 are amazing cars/platforms, it just depends on what kind of driving experience you want. Here are the pros and cons for both (YMMV):

981
Pros: true point-and-shoot car, almost like a go-kart experience. Best handling car/Porsche I've ever driven. More bang for your buck.

Cons: Almost too easy to drive. Steering is light/lighter than a 997 due to electric assist. Aesthetically not as appealing as a 997/911 (subjective).

997
Pros: hydraulic steering just feels better, weighting is terrific, you feel the road better. It feels more weighty in a good way, like a good crystal glass for sipping Scotch vs normal glass. More engaging driving experience and you have to drive with more intent and mindfulness due to rear weight bias. More rewarding when you get it right. More interior space.

Cons: Will bite you in the *** if you get it wrong. Less bang for your buck. Doesn't handle/corner as well.

These observations are spot on. I have both a 997 GTS and a 981 BGTS. Both are great but I prefer the 997 hands down. The 981 is almost boring to drive compared to the 911. It's too good and the steering is dead feeling if comparing. Last week, for the first time, I drove both cars back to back for an extended period of time and the 997 provides so much more feedback to inputs. The 981 does everything you tell it to do but is a little numb. I will say I have a lot more confidence pushing the 981 due to its balance and handling, without a doubt, it's a great car.

Off topic but I understand your scotch glass analogy. I don't use crystal glasses for my bourbon but it makes sense. I have very nice dedicated cups for my coffee/espresso. The shape and mouth feel of them enhance the taste and experience immensely, like good wine glasses. It makes me think i should get something better for my Bourbon's.

Best auto-related simile I've seen here. Thanks for inspiring me to lift some crystal tonight. Cheers.
