^^^ the only 2 mods I have done on the car so far is to 1) take the center muffler off, and install a Sharkwerks Center Bypass. It really wakes up the sound. I retain the two side mufflers, since removing them only reduces weight (about 40 lbs total) and heat. And since I only really drive this car on the street, those are not benefits I need. Besides, when the exhaust valves are open, the gasses only need to jump across a small 2" gap inside the side-mufflers, to then enter directly into the center bypass. So it gets LOUD when the valves are open.
The 2nd mod I installed was a Carnewal (product out of Sweden) Exhaust vacuum inline switch. This product has 2 components, a inline switch, and a key-FOB. The inline switch is a easy install on top of the motor directly inline to the vacuum solenoid. It draws power directly from the Porsche vacuum solenoid, so it needs no batteries, nor any new connection to power. It only needs a grounding connection. It then also communicates with a key-FOB that has 2 buttons. So NOW I can push one {larger} button and the exhaust valves will remain open 100% of the time,... or push the other {smaller} button & it closes the valves 100% of the time. I hang that key fob off my wiper staulk off my steering wheel, so it is easy access (especially when I see Police & want to quiet the car down immediately). Plus the product has memory so that when I shut the car off in the garage, it will remember which setting I left it in (open or closed). THAT way when I decide to take the car out early early on a weekend morning, I am not waking all my neighbors up. I always leave it in the closed position when I shut down for the night.
..................... If you are wondering why I needed / wanted such a device,... you should know that Porsche designed the vacuum solenoid system in the 997 GT3's such that the valves only open at about 4k rpm (w/ sport button off), and about 3k rpm w/ sport button on. My wife & I HATED that. It was very annoying to have a "pop" of increased exhaust noise when we hit that rpm range. Below that rpm the car is very subdued exhaust note,.. then as you are accelerating, the valves open & it only then gets louder. Terrible design. We either want it OPEN, or CLOSED, but not this fluctuating back & forth.
If you want to see muffler cut-away pictures that show the flow of gasses through the mufflers, take a look at my post #3 on this thread....

Was at my storage unit the other day and got this lucky shot. It was late afternoon and the sun was setting at just the right angle. No filters or edits. Helped that the car was freshly detailed.
