Default Clunk..?

Something I've always wondered about....
Porsches, and for that matter Mercedes, BMWs frim 70's and 80's were all engineered in such a way so that door closures resulted in a beautiful bank vault like sound and feel of solidity, quality.

In my opinion this sensory experiences is completely gone from newer model 997s, my car sounds tinny and hollow by comparison

Can anyone explain what made older models so effective nnthis regard and what has transpired in newer model to depreciate this quality?

Thanks

Probably all around reduction of weight, the hoods are made aluminum not sure with the doors.

Yep. Weight reduction. More HP, less weight. I now what you mean about those beautiful 'chuncks' when closing the doors. Nice. The new ones feel pretty nice though. Evy may have done something to improve the doors.

My experience was that the doors for the wide body cars close with a more solid sound than the narrow bodied cars, funny because i think the part numbers for the doors are the same. Could not understand but in the dealership, i tried different 997 cars and this was the conclusion.
