Hard shifting

Hard shifting
Over the last few days, the car has been getting harder to shift, especially into first and second when going slowly or stopped. I certainly can't do any aggressive shifting or driving. I missed a shift into 5th and heard some grinding to boot. Is this user serviceable or a shop problem? Lubrication or cable replacement? Thanks.

Is this always or when cold? My 1-2 shift has always been quite more difficult particularly when cold. After about 20 min, it seems to ease up. I usually double clutch it into 1st....yes I know the syncos are supposed to take care of that, but it always feels a bit easier. Could all be in my mind.

The more information you can supply, the more we can help. How old is the car?
I've noticed that if these cars sit for a while, they don't shift too well. You've got to drive them more frequently and then all the little bits get good and lubricated and work together much better.

The car is an '05 with a four year old engine. It shifted normally as far as I can tell last year and at first when I moved it out of the garage this spring but as the weeks went on it has become stiff.

I just picked up an 06 C2S that had been sitting in a garage for almost 4 years. I was really worried about how rough 1-2 gear were but now that I have been driving it for a couple weeks its really starting to get smoother.

22k miles isn't normally time to change gear oil, but your car is 7-8 years old. If flushing the clutch fluid does not help, try changing the gear oil. If these 2 simple things do not help, then you might be looking at worn clutch parts or failing cables (unlikely at 22k). Having said that, 1st and 2nd is always harder to engage when cold.

DIY Write-up's available for these
- flush brakes and clutch fluid = $20-$30 for a liter off brake fluid
- flush gear oil = $150 for 3 liters of Porsche(Shell) gear oil
Dealer Service
- Clutch Replacement = $1200-2000
IMHO try the least costly items 1st before going for the clutch... especially if the brake and gear oil fuild's has not been serviced on your car in the past 7 yrs. Mileage is one factor but age will also affect a fluid's protective and lubrication properties.

+1... from a troubleshooting perspective if you wanted to approach this from a cost perspective here are you're options by cost.

Thanks. I'll go in this order. From what I have seen with the local dealer, if I take the car in there, they probably will say the clutch is bad and needs to be replaced. When I first got the car, I did not have the key memory stored properly and wondered why every time I drove the car, the last climate setting was not memorized and the AC was on all the time. The dealer tried to tell me the computer module was faulty and a new one was necessary. I complained to Porsche NA about the situation after I read the manual, got help here and "fixed" it myself.
